Proud of our daughter

Finally got a little time to get down in the bottom yesterday and do some shooting. Our daughter got a small compound bow for Christmas this year and even though she's only shot it a few times she can already keep all 7 of her arrows into a circle about a foot in diameter from about 30 feet back. Heck it's better than I can do with it...LOL

We also let her shoot my wife's Walther P22 pistol for the second time and she was able to keep all 21 rounds she shot on the target. Heck, here in NC that would qualify her for the CC permit... Anyway we've been teaching her proper firearm safety and handling, how to work each gun she has fired, etc, etc for a couple of years now, along with teaching her how to shoot to defend herself if the need arose. She will most likely be riding the bus and be home alone some next year so it's something really good for her to know even though she'll probably never need it. Anyway, my wife made the comment to her that the way she was shooting and keeping everything on the target she'd definitely 'do some damage' if she had to. Daughters response was to turn and look at her Mom, and in a completely deadpan tone said, "If I've GOT to shoot somebody I don't want to damage them, I want to kill them".

At the time, the tone she used, and just the way she said it, it was actually pretty funny, kind of like one of those 'one liners' in a movie. But, funny at the time or not, it really makes me proud that at a just few weeks shy of 11 she showed that she understands the seriousness, and possible outcome of a situation where she might be faced with someone trying to break in and/or harm her and she is forced to have to defend herself.

Shortly after that I finally coaxed her into trying her Mom's .380 Colt Government. She's not quite as good with it as the .22, but I wouldn't want to get in her way either. A little more coaxing later and I had her shooting her Mom's AK. Funny thing there she protested doing it unless I helped as 'she couldn't do it herself, so I had to help. I kept my hand in front of the mag and helped her until she made two shots and then kept lessing my hold without letting her know. Within about 6 shots she was doing it on her own. Thing is until I told her and pulled my hand away she didn't realize she had been holding and shooting it with no help from me at all. Thing is she thought she couldn't do it, and I had to show her she could without her knowing it. Once she realized she could do it on her own she wanted to shoot more, but I had only taken down two mags and was out of ammo.

The way I see it, when others out there are worried about their kids and guns, at least I know I don't have to worry about mine because she has been taught, and will know how to both respect them, and what they can do, and how to handle and use them safely should the need ever arise.

And you have reason to be proud Wayne. While the mainstream abundant press would hate (or simply refuse) to cover a story where a woman or child saved their life by using a gun properly and lawfully IT DOES HAPPENS. Teaching a child to properly use and respect a firearm may save their life. Watch now for gun control people to scream about child gun accidents which the press would cover all over the front pages. I see it coming and then post goes POOF lol

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

"Ah yes gun control, the theory that its somehow morally superior to become a victim rather then use a gun to protect yourself, makes perfect sense"

To be fair, I will NOT push for laws on others requiring them to carry a gun to protect themselves, and in return expect them to honor my constitutional right to do so should I choose. Somehow I think they will NOT go along with that lol they want to impose their beliefs on me but I cant in turn impose mine on them hmmmmmmmmm TYPICAL ELITIST abundant PHILOSOPHY

Best wishes, keep up the good work, and God Bless you and your family.........

That's terrific. I assume that's the happy girl in the picture with you?
Yesterday the girl who hunts our woods with her family got her first deer. I guess they were all so excited they were hardly touching the ground!

good self defense for women hair spray a good dose in the face and it will stop anybody. then when they cant see you and there hands are busy trying to clear there eyes you can shoot them where you want to. you dont have to have good aim a gun can wing them and wont stop a person unless you hit them right and its also legal and better than pepper spray

Even better is wasp/ hornet spray- shoots a solid stream out about 20 feet, and I don't even want to think about getting that nasty stuff in my eyes.

I'm glad you are teaching her. I should of went out more with my kids. Still could but we are all even more busy. And where I live you can't just go out and shoot. Too many houses in all directions. My daughter was better then my son ever was.
Only thing I want to add is make sure you are using hearing protection for practice. I didn't when I was young and am ever bothered by loss of hearing and ringing in my ears.

You're doing it right. Teach them how to handle the firemans properly and you will never have a problem.

My youngest wants to move up to the 12 gauge, but she just isnt big enough to handle the recoil yet. Til then, she is blasting away with the .410 and the 20 gauge.

Good job!! I hate 380s. I would much rather shoot my 44 over the 380, but its more about the size of my hands.

Bet this one goes POOF too

We never got our daughter into guns but we had her on the hay wagon enough that she developed plenty enough muscle to keep her dates in line.

Great to hear what your daughter can do with a firearms. Many kids now days don't even have that opportunity. I knew before I was even married that if I had a daughter she would take karate lessons. Well when our daughter was in 3rd grade she wanted on her own to take karate lessons. She was in class and became a trainer in the 9 years she was enrolled. She also worked the front desk as an employee. She earned her black belt on her 17th birthday. She and us were very proud. Here's a picture of her when we went to the rifle range about 3 weeks ago. We had a blast.

Know what you mean about losing some hearing. Having spent 6 years in the Navy, working in the engine rooms where the noise levels were routinely over 100 db, I have lost a little bit of mine too. Anyways, I always make sure everyone has hearing protection of some type before get start. The way I see it, a shot here and there when hunting is one thing, but two hundred shots within an hour or so is a bit much to do without some sort of protection.

Ours took Karate for a year too when she was around 5. I don't know what all she learned move wise, but she did discover one thing quite by accident. I was letting her punch at my hands one evening and she was putting out some pretty good punches to each one (on each side). Then she got a wild hair and gave me one punch right in the middle ((((((which for a 5 year old worked out to be just below the belt))))) Needless to say I was hurting, and talking with a fairly high pitch for a while..... Now days she knows that if a man ever lays a hand on her that that move is one sure fire way to put some real HURT on him.....

LOL. Seriously, I don't know if you saw anything about it or not, but not too long ago some guy had their states 'Social Services' folks pay him a visit over a video posted on Youtube of his young son shooting an AR. All I can say is what a bunch of idiots.

Good for both of You. Taught both of My children how to shoot at a young age.
