Well we got feeezing rain last Tuesday night. It hasn't warmed up enough to melt off anything. The ice on the trees is crystal clear, and like prizzums. The colors are spectacular.
It was 3F this morning and fog was lifting up off the lake. Everything is white this morning at sunrise.
As Old Earl would say; "My Ain't This Purdy"

Loren, back when I was in school we had no geography and I never learned where the Adirondack were, Just that I think they were a mountain chain along the east coast someware. That does not look like mountains tho. Could you help me understand what they are and where you are located at, "general area" not specificate location. State only would help.

No, The town put up the signs to attract tourists from the city. HeHe "Here's your Sign"
Actually we have a very diverse population of Amish and Menonites. The Amish comunities range from the very traditional, to more modern with late model steel wheeled tractors, and the Menonites drive cars and trucks.
Personally I'm glad to see them here. They are stuards of the land, and have bought a lot of it up around here, thus stopping the Citiots from building lavish estates and then complain, because a farmer spread slurry or sprayed his crops.
For the most part they have been good neighbors, but they don't respect posted signs when it comes to hunting.

Leroy, here is a map of where the Adirondack mts are.

loren is on the south edge. New York has a very diverse geography, from mountains to lake plain along lake Ontario, to hills and valleys in the southern tier where I live. not to mention NYC, which is what most think of when we say we're from NY.

Leroy,
I am located just south of the Mowhawk River (Erie Cannal), which divides the Adirondack Plateau and Mountains from the Catskill Mountains. I have a lot of ties on the north side of the river, and thus my handle evolved.
Our farm is on the north end of Otsego Lake half way between Albany and Syracuse, NY.
Google the lake name, James Fenimore Cooper, or General James Clinton, and you will get a broad range of the history of the area. The farm nane Clinton Camp Farm came from Clinton's march of the Continental Army to hook up with Washington at Valley Forge, during the Revolunionary war. The farm is where he encamped to build the dam at the end of Otsego lake, and the origin of the Susquehana River.

Nick,
Be patient. we don't tap maples until mid Feb. when schools take winter break. We have always had willing school kids to help hang buckets then, but the sap rarely starts running until mid March-early April..
