Off topic, guess on firetruck weight....

When hauling a load of scrap, $240/ton really got my attention today. I've got a low miles '68 ford cab over pumper with big 1000gpm pump, small pto pump and 750 gal tank. Has the gigantic gasser in it. How much you think this sucker weighs? Hasn't ran in a year, need to get it on some scales! 33,000 gvw I think. 20,000#? More? Think those two pumps have some brass or something else special to part out? Will try to sell it as a runner maybe first, this would be the backup plan. Thanks

If it were me, I would pull the pumps and sell them separate, don't scrap them. There is value there.

Not the right time of year in Michigan to sell them, but they would go in the spring.

Single or tandem rears?? I have an old Ford Super duty that was a dump truck that has the big block 534 gas engine in it. Now days I only scrap if and when I am hard up for $$ since most goes to China and some day they will do just like Japan did on Dec 7 1941 and throw it back at us

I scrapped one just like it I'm sure. Had the 534 in it. I bought it just to scrap it. Drove it to the farm and stripped all the brass of the pumps, and trust me it was well worth it. I drove it over the scales and they paid me a lot more than it was worth to sell outright.

If it runs find an MX track or dirt track that needs a water truck. You'll get a lot more than scrap. The pumps are worth a few bucks being high pressure and high volume.

Old, if they started throwing the quantity of steel at us that you have, it would hit me up here to. I was amazed at your collection.

Oliverguy, I found my weight slips from mine. The truck after I stripped the brass diamond plate and some tool boxes weighed 18,260 lbs. The brass was not to bad to separate. Lots of little fittings and such. The brass totalled 287 lbs. So, @ 250 a ton which I got then, was 2,280 for the truck and got 2.45 a lb for brass which was 703 dollars. So 2,983 bucks. If I knew how to do pictures on this sight I'd put one up for comparison.

Those things where gas hogs as in less then 5mpg. The old one I have had a Holley 850 on top till some one stole it from me. The one I have also has the twin stick shifter so you had to know how to drive well to drive it

I did some checking around and found that the engines are pretty much worth their weight in scrap. Like old said, 5 or less mpg. Kinda sad my truck was just out of service and really nice. Just not any demand for that kinda stuff around here.

Yes, it likes the gas. Plus I wouldn't want my house on fire on
the other end. Very slow! 5 spd and very sloppy.
