pto transfer

Is there anything made to transfer the power from a rear mounted pto shaft to a front facing shaft or pulley so that I could mount a belly mower on a tractor?

I used a pulley on the PTO shafe and made a new pto shaft with a pulley & two pilot bearings pointing forward. An drove it with a V Belt. Note rotation direction changed. Not real good under a hard load. The belt tends to slip.

30 years ago one popular thing for the students in my ag mechanics class to do was mount belly mowers on tractors. The most popular tractors to install a mower on at that time were the A_C model C and some version of a Farmall model A. There was a pulley in the kit that mounted on the PTO shaft that transferred the power to the mower. Maybe you should give us more information as to what model tractor you have and what brand and how large of a mower you have.

"HUB CITY" makes a number of gearbox"s, in 1 to 1
and other ratios, to do this. One problem is
the height of the rear differential, and clearance
to get underneath it.
I have seen front mounted Snow Blowers, and
rotary brooms mounted on the front of older
tractors, with some kind of PTO, and Shaft set-up.
With modern tractors, and higher volume, higher
pressure hydraulic systems, a hydraulic motor is
probably a better way to go

1952 John Deere M. I rebuilt and restored it and if I could put a belly mower on it I could get a lot more use from it. I do not yet have a belly mower, but there is a 60" John Deere mower not far from me for a reasonable price, which is what gave me the idea.

My great-great-uncle had either an L or an M JD that he put a belly mower under, after he retired from farming. I think it was a Woods.

Depending on the tractor the mowers drive from the belt pulley if its on the rear. Those who dont have a rear belt pulley drive the mower from the PTO shaft and run the belt forward to he mower. What tractor are you using.

I had an M JD when I was 16 with a Woods belly mower. It had a big v belt pulley on the PTO shaft that ran the mower with a long belt. There were two idler pulleys at the back of the mower to run the belt forward to the mower.
You could find that setup somewhere.

The Deere L never had a PTO avaible. The LA did but it was a scarce ten times over option and in my 70 years never seen one. And the belt pully for them was on the left side front of tractor and also never sen one on an L, Side cycle yes and they drove off the driveshaft.

For the second and last time. Woods has everything you need including the mower. Engineered for your tractor.

Sorry Bill(Wis), but I just want to throw in my two cents. I have seen a lot of Farmall Cubs set up that way. Maybe they are Woods.
