Spray Painting small parts

While refurbishing tractors and equipment along with other items, I ultimately run into a situation of needing to touchup or repaint small pieces. This presents a problem with mixing paint and cleaning the spray equipment. I usually spray with a gun that has a one quart can.
Anyone have experience with small spray guns suitable to spray small amounts of paint.

I have used everything from HVLPs, to quart cups, to 1/2 pint cups. I know what you are talking about. Mixing small amounts of paint are a pain. Bur remember the CLEAN UP is all the same whether you use a gun & quart cup or a gun & 1/2 pint cup.

The gravity feed guns work better for me with small quantitys of paint, but as stated earlier the clean-up takes about the same amount of thinner and time.

I use harbor freight gravity guns . On sale the are very cheap and if buy throway cups just run thinner through new cup save for next job. After a couple job pitch the gun also . Only 10 or 12 bucks for gun.

Many years ago , I had a similar concern , plus the ability to touch up small spot repaired areas on my vehicles . I was doing some commercial building repairs at an auto parts store during the time I was doing my car .So I mentioned my project to the store owner & he showed me a small 1/2 pint detailing paint gun he had in stock . I think I only paid around $19.00 for it . That little gun has been the sweetest & handiest paint gun in my shop . Its by no means a detailing gun , but it definitely works swell for small areas or small parts . I think its made by Eclipse .Check with your local autoparts store that is also an autobody repair parts & paints . Doubtful that places like Pep Boys , Auto Zone or Advance Auto would know anything about paint guns or what's available .Hope this helps . Good luck & God bless , Ken

Yes --the throwaway cup is probably what I am looking for. I am aware that cleanup time is about the same with any spray gun, but at least the can could be eliminated.
Are you referring to a "liner" for the can?

If you use paint from an auto parts store they can
mix some and put it in spray cans for you.

I mainly painted John Deere's.

That is also one of the reasons I used John Deere's paint on them.
I could buy quarts, gallons,or spray bombs and it would match !
Now they would change their shades once in a great while over the years so over a period of years you could run into some color match problems if trying to retouch years later.

I have seen these at harbor freight also. They just screw on your gun, then just throw them away when finished. These are for HVLP (gravity) only. Probably cheaper than using thinner, or lacqer thinner. Stan

Here's my gun for painting small items and touch up. Your arm doesn't get tired. Hal
PS: After looking at the picture I don't think that's the touchup gun. It's also the HVLP gun only a lot smaller.

Now they have bags that go in the gun and hold the paint. Once the bag is removed you just squirt from a bottle through the stem until clear fluid comes out . Gun cleaned. Check out Iwata sray equipment.

I use a small detail gun for touch up or just on small parts. Clean up is easy, not much waste if I don't use it all, does a good job, and it was less than $20. Really happy with it.

NAPA sells a small glass jar with a power pack that screws on to it called a prevail sprayer, the power pack will spray a couple of jars of paint for about 6 or 7 bucks, I have been using them for about 30 years. After assembly I use a brush to touch bolt heads etc.

some places can take your paint and put in spray cans...did this when i worked for a major oil company....they had their own paint..we had to touch up when we broke any flanges aloose

I use the HF small touch-up guns, they can be purchased for less than $10 at times. I am very well pleased with them.
