Anyone bought from tirechains.com?

I have been looking for a set of chains for my Farmall 300 and not finding
anything locally big enough for the 14.9/38. I looked at
tirechains.com and saw that they have ladder type for about $300
including UPS to me and duo grip type for a bit over $400. I would
be interested to hear if anyone has bought from them and can say
what the quality is like. Would rather not buy new but winter is
coming fast. Thank you very much.
Zach

bought a set of chains for my Suburban from them back in 2007 for a trip to Colorado. Thankfully, have never used them. Quality appears OK, no problems with the transaction.

Zach - I purchased a set of 14.9 x 38 ladder chains from tirechains.com several years ago. Good quality and fast delivery - I'd buy from them again.

Tip: Unless the tread is pretty much worn off your tires I'd recommend spending the extra for the "duo grip" style.

My experience (I have nearly new tires...) was the ladder chains tend to end up falling into the deep valleys between the tread lugs. This greatly reduces their effectiveness.

I field-modified my ladder chains by adding links between each pair of cross chains, effectively turning them into duo grip style. The cross are now held on top of the tread lugs and work great.

I got a set for my JD 50 and a set for my Scout and was happy with both sets. Yes, the cross links will get down between the lugs and I'm glad I got the duo style.

I bought a set of double rings earlier this year, a set of tensioner's even the small load binder. They're not too much trouble to put on, with the terrain and winter conditions, nice to have, and don't run on the pavement, these do provide nice traction and clear themselves of mud, snow etc.

It says somewhere in there, on the website these are an a.s.t.m. hardness or similar reference standard, so it should be, or at least cross chains are, hardened for longer wear, course I won't likely wear a set of these out. I would suggest the same, if you have concerns about the cross chains settling in the thread, they don't do much. I've had a few with turf tires and ladder chains, one an IH 460, ladder works fine on those, but not so good on firestone field & road, ag tires.

End of last season I took the chains off, clean and dry and put them in clean feedbags, stored in dry garage no rust, not that this matters, but if I no longer needed them, they stay in nice condition for resale.

They came in cloth bags that were real heavy, definitely watch your back when handling !

bought set for Ford 2000, put on today, duo grip, heavy son of a guns, work great, this is winter number 3, still look like new - good value for money, delivered to door

I was leafing thru the Gemplers catalog, today, and noticed they have tire chains for tractors, trucks, and cars, This is not chain country, so I didn't look at prices.

Yep! Bought a set for my JD4320 18.4x38. Ladder type chains, came shipped fast in two boxes. I told UPS as they were trying to get them up on my porch to leave them in the drive. He said THANKS and got out as fast as he could.

Bought them in 08 and been using ever since.

It's been at least ten years ago, but I was happy with them then.

Spend the extra money for the duo-grip chains. I'm surprised they can UPS your chains; they must be pushing 100 pounds each.

I've bought 2 sets from them. Both were double ring, the ladder type aren't worth squat for tractor tires. Mine are very good chains.

I bought a pair for my Mahindra SCUT. Not sure right now of the size, but it is not a common size.
The quality is great, however they do not fit properly. I had to shorten them considerably and they are a bit wide.
I don't think that they custom fit them but have a range of should work, and leave it up to the customer to tweak them

While we are on tire chains. Although we never use them in these parts one of our store managers bought a brand new set for a FORD f 350 2 years ago. Backs are for duals and fronts single. If anybody needs them I will get the size and you can have them for little of nothing , freight and Say 30 bucks. I am going to take them to the scrap place so what ever you guys think they are worth. E-mail is open.

This will sound kinda hillbilly, but.......many years back when I had a large farmall I bought a pile of dog chain and wrapped it around each tire many times just so I could have chains, this was before the internet was common place, so I would have never heard of tirechains.com
The dog chain didnt work great but it did get me out of a few icy spots.

Yes, I've bought a couple of pairs and they were very well made and reasonably priced. One set needed a little shortening, the other was a perfect fit.

I'll add myself to the list of folks recommending double-ring chains instead of ladder chains.

Thank you all very much. I have ordered a set of duo grip chains and am looking forward to improved traction.
Zach

I ordered a set of double ring chains for for Case 680. Tire size was 19.5-24. They work real good in mud, ice, and snow. Not good on pavement though, I have broken several rings.

I've got a new set fro 26"-28" tires I'm going to sell if anyone could use them.
