MSRP on new Honda?

Haven't been to a new car dealer in over a decade and lots of used stuff is just goofy on pricing. Internet search shows prices of about $16,200 for a new Honda Fit. Do dealers even negotiate prices anymore. The last new car I bought was a Saturn and they had non-negotiable pricing at the time.

This would be a nice little car to haul some tractor parts in.

Non-negotiable price????? Ya and they only make $100 on them. Walk in and out a few times and see if they don't stop you at the door.

My buddy bought a new Honda Fit about 2 or three years ago. He paid about $15500. Pretty basic car, good economy and fairly roomy.
He is a contractor / repair it guy. He prides imself on leaving his new F250 at home and going to the plumbing wholesaler and loading 4 toilets or 2 60 ga hotwater tanks in the back.

Do the dealers bargan - on used yes, don't worry about hurting their fealing - they really have no emotions to hurt. On new - they won't move much, but there is stuff they can throw in. Again, don't worry about insulting them...

The best I have found is to really figure out what you want, then play 2 or 3 dealerships off each other. Make them work for it. Someone on his site told me it's a salesmans job to sell you the car, not your job to buy it.

Good Luck. Grant

When I go out to buy a new car I start early.
I go in and find what looks like the newest salesman in the bunch. Tell him I am interested in X car; one I found at another dealer that I have no interest in. Tell him give me your lowest price first time because I do not negotiate. No matter what he says I say thanks but dealer X gave me a lower price on the same car and get up to walk out.
This will usually get you the manager in charge.
I explain to the manager that I asked for your lowest price and you gave it to me. I do not negotiate so we have nothing more to talk about because dealer X gave me a lower price on the same car. I explain that he may get another chance to sell me a car because we may be replacing the wife's car also in a few months and walk out. If he every calls back I tell him I told you I do not negotiate and have bought already from dealer X.
I do this at 3 or 4 dealers.

I give it a few months then find the car I want online threw dealer inventory search.
When I walk in the dealer I ask for Mr so and so (the manager) When he shows up I ask remember me. Time to replace the wife's car so give me your lowest price. I do this at all the dealers I talked to using the same car. You will be surprised. One of them will be so upset from losing the previous sale (that really never happened) he will come back with a very low price just to show you he can out bid anyone else.

I had one salesman ask me....
What did you tell that manager? He is giving you a lower price than I can buy that car for and I work here.

Sure they negotiate, nothing has change. Honda fit being an "entry" level car, will not have much wiggle room.

Do a ton of research, look for any incentives that they may have. If you belong to certain orginizations may get you a few bucks off.

I bought a new Ram back in May. If I had owned an AGCO tractor it would have been good for about 200 bucks,I think an Electricians union was also on the list, along with AOPA membership.

Hold back and keep fighting,we were a thousand buck off and on our way out the door, there were three of them trying to keep us, finally my wife told them that we would come up 500 if they threw in lifetime oil changes and they went for it.

Go on the last week of the month, they are anxious to get there number in the tally for the month.

Do not pay cash or even mention it, dealers receive a percentage back on the volume of loans they write for a lender. Cash never gets the best price. Even if you can pay cash, who do you care who you write the check to. let the dealer get his kickback then go home and write a check to the finance company. (Make sure that there is no prepayment clause)

The wife and I enjoy a good battle at a dealership and we have dragged them out for 6 or 8 hours. Buying the Ram,we drove away in it for $8000.00 less than the sticker.
Extreme negotiating is not for every one,if you are afraid of raising your voice or making a scene it is not for you.
Remember they are counting on you, there is another dealer you can go to and they will not let you walk unless they absolutely have to.
These days if you walk in with a better than average credit score they will do most anything to sell you.

I haven't heard of anyone other than Saturn doing the no negotiation thing. I understand that it was supposed to appeal to women. All the ads tell about discounts, which means that f you don't get a sizeable one you are leaving significant dollars on the table. I got $8,000 off when I bought my '05 F-350. I think that a rough rule of thumb should be 15% off base and 50% off the options. They make a lot more on the options.

I have been looking for a CAR recently and the negotiated price is gone. Almost every dealer I visited has one price, pay it or leave it. New way to sell cars. I bought a new Jeep Grand cherokee in Georgia that way as far back as year 2000

Like Pitch said the Fit is a low frills car and
basically the price on the sticker is what you have
to pay. The one you are looking at is probably a
base model and will be a little cheaper to insure.
The sport model has alloy wheels, spoiler over the
back window, fog lights and a few other frills but
the interior and drive train is the same on both
models but the sport will cost a little more for
insurance just because it has "sport in its
description.

Yes, of course, dealers will negotiate prices on new cars except in unusual situations, e.g., special, low production or just released and desireable models.

Only the unprepared pay MSRP (or more).

Once you have negotiated your price and they spring the $200 - $300 "doc prep" fee on you, simply inform them that you do not pay for document preparation.

A trick i learned. When they start throwing numbers fast in order to confuss you, Say "all I want to know is what I ryte the check for."They will throw a number out then latter still try to add cost. They grumble when you write the check but they take it.

I have an 2008 fit sport. They have alot more room then you
would think. I get from 30 to 32 pretty consistant driving to
work and in traffic at lunch time. Back when I got mine no
one else had anything out like it. They were hard to find
and there were no deals. Now there may be some room?
I now see used ones with low miles advertised pretty
cheap. They must hold their value as good as other Hondas.

The prices they quote don't include a 250 dollar title fee, prep fee,or any other thing they can add on.Then they try to sell you rust proofing, and extra insurance and of course scotch guarding to protect your seats.

(quoted from post at 07:39:49 11/24/13) WRONGO! Easy to get $1400-1500 off list on a new Fit.

My daughter and sil bought a 2012 leftover Fit and it's been a good small car so far but my sil sez he can't drive it very far because a bump-out on the lower dash right where his knee wants to lay. He's about 6' tall and it bothers him. Daughter doesn't have a problem with it bothering her and she's 5'6". If you are a taller guy then test drive it for leg room.
They negotiated a lower price on the car also.

If there are a number of Honda dealers within a 25 mile range. Send a email asking for a binding delivered price for exactly what you want. Make sure you have each dealer's e-mail address-mail in the To: line so they know they are bidding against the other guys. Or try Costco If there is only one dealer their are a number of on-line groups that will get a delivered price.

I got a 2012 Honda Accord to replace my old 1996 Pontiac Bonneville with 225K miles on it. The second dealer I went to had the "one price" thing going on, but somehow that price they gave me was UNDER what I expected (or was aiming) to be able to negotiate it down to! And it even had a few extra features on it. So you never know. :D

I have a good friend that works at a multiple brand dealership. They most definitely will negotiate a deal on a new car. They will sell a new car at very low profit to get a good clean trade in.
Always tell them you want the out the door price.
