Gear Shifting Problem

I can get the gear shift lever into the R, 1, and 2 gear slots of the gear shift quadrant of my 1952 John Deere Styled Model AR tractor.

However, I cannot get the gear shift lever to move past the 2nd gear slot of the vertical neutral slot of the gear shift quadrant and, hence, into the higher 3, 4, 5, and 6 gear slots. The gear shift lever comes to a hard stop just past the 2nd gear slot.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

You will have to remove the shift lever cover and see where the shift rails are preventing the lever from moving. In neutral everything should line up. Hard to explain but some thing is out of place down below. Ron Mn

Higher gears may have been DELIBERATELY blocked out.

When I worked underground in the Mines we did that to all of the vehicles to keep the speed down.

Usually in a transmission if one shift rail inside the transmission is not in its neutral position it is designed to not let the other shift rail move.

Worn shift lever linkage or clevis pins on the outside of the transmission can cause a shift rail not to move its full travel length and cause this.

This might not be the same case (david brown pun) but not to long ago I couldn't get into reverse on my 885N. Turns out I had to loosen the boot, unbolt the shift knob and just re-align the rail H.
