OT My 3 year old heard sire for a small farmer/beef producer

When I retired I sold my herd to a neighbor. Thought I was out of the farmin/beef raising business. Things changed beyond my control and I wound up back in it. But that's OK-fine. Never had registered stock for several reasons, but had some premium stock, mostly Brangus (3/8 Braman, 5/8 Angus). Course with line breeding and free range grazing sometimes the percentages changed.

Just happened to sell my herd to a friendly neighbor and when it was decided that I was going to get back in and needed adequate breeding stock, I went to this neighbor.

Called him like 8 pm one night asking if he had a yearling bull I could buy. He said as a matter of fact he had one 7 month old he was going to do the "no longer a boy thing" to him the next morning.

I bought him. So the pic is his 3rd anniversary. Good gentile boy and throws some nice calves.

Maybe not circumcised? LOL! I caught that typo too.

For a while when I was a kid, our herd included what my Dad thought was a "Brangus" cow. I don"t remember where she came from, but she was the meanest, orneriest fence crawler on the place. It got so it was not safe to go out among the cattle without some kind of a stick to whack that cow if she decided to get aggressive. After about a year, the Brangus cow got a ride to the stock yard, and we never got another Brangus. I could never figure out what the heck was the matter with her--the only COW I ever felt I needed to be really cautious of!

He is a good looking bull and at 3 yrs old he still will grow some more. I think the Brangus breed is a good choice here in Texas. Here's a picture of my Brangus bull at 5 yrs old.

Thanks Jim, so is the other pic of the 5 year old with all the
brands. I don't know what the price of the 5 year old was but
mine was $800 delivered with initial vaccinations. He wasn't
weaned and poor boy made a ring around the corral until he
realized mama was a thing of the past. I wean my calves before
I sell them, be it the sale barn or to a neighbor.

In response to the question about how do you know he is gentile,
a couple of things come to mind. I feed every morning a token
cube breakfast mainly to get them handy where I can look them
over and spray horn flies when in season. All I have to do is
holler at him and he will back off till I get the feed out.

When I am feeding round bales, he has learned to stay his
distance until I have the hoop in place and the strings cut on one
side. While I am on the other side pulling the strings, he and his
girl friends move in carefully.

Had Brangus for over 30 years and never had a bad one. One of
my bulls I used to go and sit on him when he was lying down and
rubbed him with the back scratcher.
