Hyd. basics part 2 article

I was reading on this sight where they have articles.. the one about Hyd. part 2. about dirt and dust plugging the hyd. air filter. I have A J.D. 3020 and Skidloader 1840..Dont know that in the manuals it ever talked about hyd. air filter. that being said.. where would that be. Can it be part of the refill cap?? curious?

YES there is a breather in the hyd filler cap on a JD 3020 that can gt plugged with debris.

Yes it is a breather that allows air into the tank so that atmospheric pressure can push the oil into the pump as it is running.

As others have said, it's a filter in the breather of the filler cap. In the past, in high dust environments with large wheel loaders & dozers I have cut the foot end of the wife's OLD panty-hose off and stretched it over the filler caps; it makes an excellent "pre-filter" for the breather filter.
