Got to pick some corn today. Even used my tractors to haul loads and run the elevator. Got to do one of my favorite things too, pick corn after dark. Don't know why I like that but I really do. Hoping the ground thaws enough to do some plowing tomorrow.

Its been forever since I've seen corn being picked around here, I remember my friend doing that on his farm, nice size cylindrical crib, bright yellow every year,I think he had a 2 row NI, was gray/galvanized. He mostly chopped in those days, but he always did a variety of things. Great to see some photos, I have not seen a full corn crib around here in a long time

Nice.

I only picked 4-5 loads this year, corn went down and got dry so fast, didnt have time or reason to crib it. Did my last 2 loads at night too. Didnt get any pics this year.

You never realize how things are going to change. The next fall after high school I run the cornpicker for dad and did all the picking. He had a IH 400 with 2HM picker. The bad think is I don't remember what he did the next years. I know a comnbine come into the picture somewhere. That SC or DC Case looks pretty there.

That brings back some good memories, I handled corn that way when I raised it for the cattle. You gotta have a combine and cab tractors now days.

I love working at night too. Things seems to be quieter. I know they are not. Must be the darkness.

My favorite is mowing my tree rows. With all the lights (4 big halogens) it attracts tons of bugs. This will bring 6-8 bats zipping right in front of my loader eating a free meals for 2-3 hours.

You don't even see the cribs anymore. My brother sold the "wire" cribs on the home place to some guy who said he was going to put them them up on his place. Dad put them up in the 1950s and they still looked pretty good considering their age and use. They were much easier to use than the old wooden cribs that were part of a building.

Thats what he had, good size wire one, its nice to see the diversity of the smaller family farms, like in the past, I remember wooden cribs and those outward slanted outbuildings, there were several on the other side of the big field near me, was an old farm, abandoned when I was young, you could tell they did a lot of different things on the farm and picked corn was one of them. I'll have to ask my friend what he used it for, that was a long time ago, still great to see the photos here !

That's what I've been looking at for almost two weeks. Making progress but the weather is supposed to turn wet again.

A picture from last year when it was warm and dry.

All the pictures look very much the same as what I been doing. Tractors are different though. I've been using a JD2550 w/cab so I'm in luxury, all nice and warm. Farmall H as the wagon hauler, Farmall M on the elevator.

I do see where ever the wagon is unloaded, there is a pile of ears on the ground.

Huh. It musta been an option 'cause I have seen plenty of Korys, but never one with that door opener. Every one i've seen has a wheel like a Killbros, parker, J&M, etc.
