Dang truck has a rough idle when in drive and lunges while stopped at signs or lights. If I put a half a quart of oil or trans fluid in every fill up of diesel, it will smooth right out. If I forget to add the oil, I'm riding the bucking horse again. What the hay?

Fuel pressure regulator, that maintains your rail pressure. It will only get worse. Before I broke down and replaced mine, it would surge so hard you thought someone had hit you from behind. Mine went at 200k. Best I remember it wasnt bad, about $300, and a afternoon. I looked at a couple youtube videos, and did it. Before you drop that kind of cash though hook it up to a scan tool and make sure. watch your rail pressure, it will drop down to 2k/2.5 and jump back up to 7k. When it jumps back up will be when you get your surge. Traded mine off with 240k, wish I had it back!

Its been a couple years but the best I remember it wasn't bad, about $300, and a afternoon. There easy to get to on a common rail cummins, but you have to pull a couple things on the D-MAX. I watched a couple of youtube videos, and went after it. Just to be sure(before you drop the cash) hook up to a scan tool and watch your rail pressure. It will start out at between 5or7K(depending if someone has hung a tuner on it or shimmed the relief)) and will drop down to 2k or 2500, and then jump back up. When it jumps back up, is when you get your surge.

Sounds like you've figured it out. Just in case you didn't, check here........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-gm-diesel-engines/140-duramax-third-generation-2006-2007-5-lbz-lly/

You just reminded me that mine has the same problem, but only when it is colder out. Truck has to be partially warmed up in the cold weather for it to happen. Haven't had the problem since last winter. I assume it will get worse.
