ford 600 tractor 4th gear or rear end noise

Thinking of buying a ford 600 tractor but in 4th gear going from full rpms to suddenly low rpms to slow down in 4th gear I hear a weird noise in trany or rear end for a few seconds while decelerating. It was 45 degrees here today could this be old stiff lube in the trany or rear end or could it be 4 gear going out or rear end going out???

Which 600 is it, 640, 650, 660?

So we know what tranny you have?

Thanks Paul the 600 is a 640 four speeds forward the four speed trany not the 5 speed.
