Personally I served in Europe during the Cold War. Kitzengen, Germany June '64 to Dec '66. My Thanks to ALL Veterans.
 
I served from 64-68 in the Navy.Some of the paces, I served. Illionis, Tenn, San Diego, Phillippines,, Vietnam, Japan, San francisco. Next stop Adak Alaska, that's when I got off the bus. Stan
 
Was invited to serve in the Army, 1962--1964
Basic training in Fort Knox, Ky. there to Fort Dix, New Jersey, to Ft. Campbell, Ky. to Ft. Rucker, Alabama to Korate, Thialand back to Ft. Campbell,Ky.
First year in a transportation company, aircraft school in Ft. Rucker, 9th logistical command in Thialand and in helicopter squad in Campbell. Wasn"t too bad for 2 years

I really enjoyed my tours except the last 2 years I was in , it was more like a Baby Setting Job. Have to go wake them up for work on Monday morning , I told my Boss that if I wanted to baby sit I could do it at Home . Finally Retired before I did something foolish .

Served in USAF August 1963 to August 1967. I was stationed at Lackland AFB, Texas; Hunter AFB Savannah,Ga; Dover AFB, Delaware. TDY to Rhein Mein, Germany twice; Athens,Greece; and Rantoul, Ill. I was an aircraft machinist and made Staff Sargent in under 4 years.
 
Did you ever come in contact with Lou Berry My uncle. He lived near Ft. Rucker and did two two tours in Viet Nam as a pilot.

USN 1961-64, Fletcher Class can DD-528, home port San Diago. Lots of time in the South China Sea as Vietnam heated up as well a visiting many Asian ports. Also one side trip during the Cuban Crises. Happy to get off while in dry dock San Francisco.
N.A.V.Y. as in "Never Again Volunteer Yourself".
 
U.S.Navy from 1974 to 1980. Started out on subs and learned I could not handle being under water 90 days at a time and not knowing if the sun was still coming up. USSBN 633. Got transferred to the USS JFK CVA 67. Been to Scotland England Egypt Italy and Spain. Been as far north as the Arctic circle
 
That is a humorous acronym. I have a friend that is a Navy veteran, I'll have to run it by him
 
Army 66-67. Trained at Fort Riley Kansas. Then Viet Nam. Two yrs of my life given to Thank Less Goverment. Big Red 1 was my divison.
 
USAF March 58 to May 62. One month at Lackland AFB and the rest of the time at Chanute AFB Rantoul Ill.. Was in first class on the ballistic missile engines. Stayed as in instructor for rest of hitch. Taught Thor and Atlas propulsion. Got invouluntarily extended because of Berlin Crisis.
 
I dident serve anywhere. I was born in 1974, but I thank all of you who did serve. Thank you vets.

I was in Siam before the Vietnam war got nasty.
Was in Ft. Rucker for helicopter training.
 
US Army 1966 to 1968. Basic Ft. Knox,Ky. Then to FtBliss Texas. 22J20 Hawk missile , SAM.
Working on the loader was where I learned what little I know about Hydraulics. Sure was fun to drive. Spent time at two bases in Germany.

USS Saratoga CVA 60 1968/1972. Did my time in nam. Came home to the reserve center. Was told to many ENs in this center. Need to transfer or join another branch. Found the 249th Signal Battalion. 49th Armored Division. From 1973/1991
 
U.S. Air Force, Aug 1960 to Aug 1964. Basic at Lackland AFB, Tx, tech training at Amarillo AFB, Tx and 3 years 7 months at Dover AFB, Del. Aircraft mechanic on C-133 and C-124 cargo Planes. Loved those big 4360 radials on the C-124's.

USAF officer, medical corps, Lackland AFB, 1984-1992, a real nice gig, as far as the military goes.
 
There is something about those big old radial engines. You just don't forget the sound. I was a mechanic also. Our planes had 3350's. Then we got P3's.(Lockeed Electras) They had suck and blow turbo prop engines. Just a whining sound, and they were going. Stan

Veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Provide Comfort-'91, Operation Iraqi Freedom-'03-'04, and Operation Enduring Freedom-'08-'09.

Went in enlisted as a Combat Engineer and received my commision in '06 as an Engineer Officer.

Few more years and I'll call it good.

Me, USN 1967 to 1973. I was aboard USS Springfield (CLG 7) TDY for 5 months, a plankowner of the USS Patterson (DE 1061) for 6 months, and spent the last part of my hitch aboard the USS James K. Polk (SSBN 645B), two Polaris patrols, conversion and one Poseidon patrol.

Dad, Combat Engineer, US Army, Ascension Island, Belgian Congo, North Africa, earned commission in 1944, Normandy, France, Belgium and Germany to 1946.

Uncle (Sgt. Frank Cassel) 29th Infantry Division, landed on Omaha Beach June 6th, KIA, St. Lo, France, June, 1944.

Brother, US Army, ASA, Korea, 1968 to 1972.

Nephew, USMC, 2 tours in Iraq. Kid that grew up quick...

He taught a lot of people to fly helicopters including Gen. Westmoreland and the President of South Viet Nam.

66-68 Ft Bliss for basic, rest of time 3 rd TAB Battalion 25 th Artillery,Ft Sill, Ok. Did TDY at Altus Air Force Base, and hi security guard duty at Ft Hood. Nearest to combat was the Washington D.C riots.

I went to aircraft maintance school in Ft. Rucker,when I was sent back to Ft.Campbell is the time General Westmorland was base comander.
I rode in a Huey sitting beside him when we were on a manouver at the base. He was a general and I was a private, but he talked to me like I was as important as he. Every time the craft went up I had to go along, got a lot of goof off time that way.

Then '68 Tet began on our watch..
What a NICE time..all the Beer we wanted...

Some one up above mentioned their Father, so I thought I would also. My Dad served in the Army Air Core as a tail gunner on a B-24. 15th Army Italy. Flew 22 missions,didn't make it back on one but made it to another field. joe

Air Force 61-65. Lackland of course, then Yale University for a year, Goodfellow Tx to learn what we would do with what we learned at Yale. After 6 months of sitting around found medically unable to go to Asia, cross trained into telephone repair & spent last 2 years at Eglin Fl, with a TDY to Thule Greenland in March of 65.

U S Army 66-68 . Ft Campbell Ky. July 66 thru Dec. 66 . Dec 66 thru May67 Ft. Gordon Ga. May 67 thru may 68 Nam , from the DMZ to the Mekong and across some lines on the map where they said we were not . Did not ware O D green it was tiger strip , did not carry a M16 or a M14 it was a AK 47 one side arm and one long gun . Shot once and hit with shrapnel three times . Yep i was in the middle of the Tet offensive. That was NOT fun .
 
US Army 68-70 Ft.Campbell, Ft. Rucker, then off to the promised land, 20th Engineer Battalion (Combat), heavy equipment mech. From Sagion to the DMZ. Base Camp was Engineer Hill near Pleiku. Got together this Summer with some guys that I haven't seen since we left there, more than 43 and 1/2 years ago, It was a great reunion!!!!! Looked at a lot of pictures, one guy made the comment--we look like a bunch of sixth graders!!We were just kids.
 
US Army for 86-96, basic Ft Knox ait Ft Ben Harrison, then Erlangen Germany 2nd Bde 1AD, rotated to Z of I Ft Story Va 11th Trans Bn, reuped for Infantry and airborne training at Ft Begining GA, Sand Hill. Followed by 2 years in Panama at Ft Kobbe, 1/508th Abn Inf, then to Ft Ord Ca, 3/27 Inf, then to Alaska, 5/9 Manchu's, and 6th SIB, commanders driver. ETSed in Aug 96. Out for 9 months then reupped for WA ANG as vehicle mechanic, school at Port Huenemie, CA. Transfered to Western Air Defense Sector, McChord AFB WA, back to school at Keesler AFB MS. Guarded 73% of US airspace from airborne threats. Retired 1 Feb 13. Been a lot of places and seen and done some things. Still carry many secrets in my head.

Glad I did it and am now done.

US Navy, as a Machinist Mate. Went in in 1986, got out in 19992 as an MM1 (E6). Served two years aboard the USS Wm V Pratt (DDG-44) out of Charleston, and another two aboard the USS America (CV-66) out of Norfolk. Went to the Persian Gulf during the first "war" aboard the America and spent our time over there between the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. We were the only carrier to sail in both places. The remaining two years were split up, and spent between schools in Great Lakes, Norfolk VA, and shore duty in Ingleside, TX.
 
Mid 60s Army Special Forces..Green Beret..20 months of training to be a demolition sgt on an overseas A-Team. Youngest dau is also a paratrooper...her hubby is also a paratrooper....the SIXTH one in our family!!! AIRBORNE!
 
My first family, wife & child, were killed by a drunk driver 23 August 1965 while I was at work. Quit a good paying job with an Architectural firm and enlisted 29 October 1965 in the USAF (had to get away, too many memories). Basic at Lackland AFB, then on to Lowry AFB, Denver for Weapons School - Aircraft Armament Systems. Honorable Discharge 13 May 1966, DD-214 Reason: Heart Disease (service incurred).
 
1992-94. Served aboard USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) "No Higher Honor" Homeported in Newport, RI for most of my hitch then Norfolk for the last few months. Deployed to Persian Gulf 11-92 to 5-93.

USMC 80-83 inactive until 86 . I was actually called back in 86 and they kept asking me what reserve unit I was from. I kept telling them none you guys called me back you figure it out. I even got some free dental work. [ never check the box asking if you have your uniforms] I checked yes.
 
US Army, Armor, 74-96. Basic at Ft Polk, Tank training at Ft Knox. 3 tours at Ft Riley, 1 at Bliss one at Knox. 3 tours of Germany, one in Korea and a "deployment" we got sent on.

Thanks to all that have and are serving! Fergi I noticed you were at at Fort Leonardwood 66 68. My Dad was there around that same time! He was never sent overseas but he said he felt he was close. He mentions it now and then and this caught my eye.
