15.5-38 Inflation?

How much pressure should the above tires be filled to on a DC CASE (tractor weighs 6,000 lbs.)?

Thanks,
Glenn F.

I like to fill mine till the sidewalls stop looking excessively bulgy on the bottom. This is fairly subjective, but both the tractors here have CaCl in the tires and I do not want to get it in the pressure gauge.

General rule of thumb for rear tractor tires is to take the first two digits of the size (15, in this case) and add two... 17 lbs. pressure.
The inflation chart in one of my owner's manuals (blue tractor, but should work just as well for your 15.5's) lists load vs. pressure for 6-ply 15.5's as 3160# capacity @ 14 psi, 3410# @16 psi, 3660# @ 18 psi, 3890# @ 20 psi, 4110# @ 22 psi, and 4330# @ 24 psi.

Most all tractor rear tires should be between 10-15psi. If you where to look on a number of owners manuals you will find that most say those numbers

I can agree with Fordfarmer as my tire man told me to inflate to 1# per tread width inch. Or a little more. Has always worked well for me.

Old, that will work with fairly skinny tires (or radials), but would be seriously underinflated on many sizes. 18.4x34, 18.4x38, and 20.8x38 are common tires, and would all be underinflated at 15 psi.

I agree that 10-12#s is too low for biased ply rear tractor tires

Ah but he asked about a smaller size and again of you look in the owners manual for a tractor with that size tire you will see different numbers

True, he did ask about a fairly skinny size. 15 psi would work in his case. It's just that your post started out "Most all..."
The lower pressures of the range you gave would only be suitable for the very skinniest of rear tires...and only fairly low axle loads, as well.
And if you read my initial post, you'd see I -DID- check an owner's manual...and the lowest pressure listed for a 15.5x38 was 14 psi.

Yes and many of use me included only have tractor that have at the biggest a 15.5X38 tire. I have some 30 tractors and that is in fact the biggest tire on a farm tractor on my place. Now ya if your talking about that Cat 950 loader I have that one takes around 50psi but then again it is a 40,000lbs machine and has the power to set a 1 ton pick up in the bed of a dump truck with out so much as a moan or groan

They're most likely bias ply so inflate them so the squish is just barely out of the sidewall. It's very subjective. Jim

Here's Firestone chart for biased ply single rear tractor tires

Always wondered about that, learn something everyday, I've always washed mine and flushed etc,. they don't read under 20lbs, real hard to see 14 psi on a regular one, (13.6 x 28 tire) and the CA CL always comes out even if up top, and its not overloaded, or I believe there is air from 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock if you looked at the tire as if it was a clock face.
