Hydraulic pump

Hi,I am kinda new to tractors and hoping someone here can help. I am a ase master auto mechanic so I kno my way around cars and trucks, but not so much about my lil tractor. I bought a JD 650 this July and love it,but my hydros are weak/won't stay up and pto very slow. I have drained fluid and cleaned filter. Found metal in fluid. Where is the pump located and how hard is it to replace? I have searched the net and no definite answers. Can anyone help. Thanks

Unless you're talking about some newer machine I'm not privy too - I assume you've got a Japanese Yanmar tractor with John Deere paint on it? If so, it's not designed anything like a John Deere Waterloo or Dubuque tractor except maybe the dual transmission shifters are sort-of Dubuque-style.

Pump is a simple gear unit and engine-driven. It will slow down functions but has nothing to do with anything staying "up." If the three-point-hitch arms are settling down, there's likely a valve problem. If they are slow, it could be a worn pump or a plugged filter. PTO is non-live and transmission driven and the hydraulics have nothing to do with it.

We sold 650s when they were first introduced and sort of bare-bones. Weren't even available with power steering and we were buying some crude add-on PS kits from Brinley and installing them. Seems a year or two later Deere came out with something better.

Yes it"s a yanmar. Sorry forgot that bit of info. This problem kind happened all at once. I was cuttin grass and noticed the blades on my finishing mower bogging down bad and three point was acting up as well. The tractor had been making a rattle noise but thought it was my floor boards cuz the bushings are badly worn and missing. You say the pump is engine driven, but where is it located. I was told it was in the case trans case. Sorry for the simple questions. Just wondering if this is something I can do myself

The hydraulic pump is on the right front side of the motor. It is driven off the timing gears on the front of the motor.

The pump could be the weak part but the not staying up issue is in the control valve. That is under the seat.
