A Public THANK YOU to JD_Seller!

I'm about to start my corn harvest this year. It has been a STRANGE year... I was setting up my combine, getting it ready for harvest... I happened upon a printed copy of a post JD_Seller made in reply to my woes last year. I was so happy to read it.

He really outlined everything I needed to look at and set up instructions. I followed all of that last year, and everything went well. I am reading it now, and I am more impressed at the time he put into replying. I am forever thankful!

This is just a general commendation. It's more of an "atta-boy!" than anything, but still, very serious.

I hope that he knows he did great, and even though he and I might have danced a bit too much on other topics, I still do appreciate everything and will never question what he has taught me.

I wish him the best, and I can't wait to put the combine back into service this year. Now that I have that information, I am golden! I can do this all day long.

Thanks JD_Seller

I too have JD Seller to thank! He helped me diagnose a problem with a new tractor as well as outlining everything to check and do to correct the problem. He even called me on his own dime and spent 30 minutes telling me exactly how to proceed. He did not have to do this. He did it because he truly likes to help others. He probably lives 400 miles away, yet he took the time to help a stranger.

THANK YOU JD SELLER!

For sure God Bless him for his help and best wishes for him in the future. Having been here over 15 years I've seen em come and I've seen em go yet YT life goes on. I respect his choice to stay or his choice to leave, it appears leaving is his choice and that's his call. Like I said before but the thread got poofed, the old quote goes something like "The graveyards are full of indispinsible (spelling??) people"

Now back to fixin tractors

Best wishes n God Bless JD and all here

John T (chooses to stay here n help what little I can)

He's always been a good contributor and I've always enjoyed his stories. Hopefully the dust will settle and he'll realize he's important to several people here.

I"ve enjoyed and learned a lot from his posts. I
donno why some have to pick apart what someone
posts. If you don"t agree, let it slide....

Saw where some posters doubted the story bout JD_S harvesting hundred thousand bushels in one day with 3 machines running. Rode w/ neighbor running a 5 yr old machine harvesting the other day. Calculated he was harvesting 2000 bu/hr the speed he was running. The machine never varied in ground speed no matter the yield of corn and he went thru some dang good corn.(This was large machine). So if you had 3 machines working and enough tractors and wagons were available (and family help)I think what JD was saying was entirely doable in 18-20 hrs.In my example it would have taken 17 hr to harvest hundred thousand bushels, based on 3 modern combines in good shape. Are some of us way out of touch with the humongous harvest capacity of bigger, modern combines less than 10 yrs old ?

Thank you JD_Seller for always helping me with "first time" situations. You always saved me a great deal of time both with diagnosis and repair. Two points - #1 - I always appreciated the fact I could breakdown at 10:00 p.m., post a question at 11:00 p.m., and know what to do by 8:00 a.m. the next morning. #2 - When I walk in the combine shop at the dealer I really don't think they want to help me. My John Deere 6620 and John Deere 4420 just don't seem to count anymore. Guess I need to buy at least a 9500 to be someone. My point is you helped everyone. Thanks. Andy - Southeast Iowa.

here is a you tube link to a local farmer here that did 53k bushels of corn in 10 hrs with a 760 lexion. the combine will do about 6000 bu an hour. i dont see a problem running 100k bushels with 3 smaller combines.
poke here

I don't know how many of you remember reading a humorous story in Farm Journal a few decades back. I think the title was "How the Bigs's Harvested 200 acres in a day" or something like that. Fiction of course, but it went in to a lot of humorous detail about just how they pulled it off.

I did a search for it and couldn't come up with it.

They had 3 generations working though. The youngest son and his wife wanted to quit early to go to a college football game,Grandpa backed over a fence post and ruined a truck tire, just endless reasons why it shouldn't have happened, but they did it somehow.

JD Seller was very knowledgeable about machinery and farming in general, and JD stuff in particular, as are many on here. But what set him apart was his willingness to spend significant time to use his knowledge to help people out- even to the extent of posting copies of manuals and parts books, or talking to them on the phone, to make it all clear. He put a lot of time into helping on this site, and I can certainly understand his irritation when certain folks can't wait to attack him over what was simply a misunderstanding from his post- that is, there were three combines working, not 2, and "the math" works with 3.

I guess the bigger question is, why are some people so quick to pounce when they perceive an error or misstatement? Some of it is jealousy, I suppose- Seller was clearly more successful and more knowledgeable than many on here (myself certainly included). And when successful people talk about what they know or have done, I suppose it can come across as arrogance, when its actually just fact.

But the sad fact is, some people are just jerks. You see it at the coffee shop, you see it everywhere. My dad had it right, and I try to live by what he said- "You can't build yourself up by tearing someone else down."

I regret that I didn't save his post about saving the 4 Vietnamese girls- it was truly inspiring.

Godspeed, JD Seller- I wish you the best. We would welcome you back, but I can certainly understand if you do not.

I had the privilage of meeting JDseller when he took time out to
come down to MO last year and attend a show I was at. I find him to
be a successful gentleman willing to help and talk the talk....he can
do that because he has walked the walk!! Jealousy is a big problem
on here.....Sam

JD SELLER Has also been very generous with his time in helping me with a Hyd. problem.

He is a very kind gentleman....................

Having run some big equipment over the last ten
years, JD's accomplishment is easily understood by
those of us who do this work for a living.
Pushing machinery today to the limit would amaze
people who, only twenty years ago, could call such
a feat as stretching the truth. But not anymore.
Many outfits around here routinely handle near
that amount often in long days of work and high
capacity machines.

What bugs me more, is the readiness of some to
call something done by others an outright tall
tale and flat out state they are liars, especially
when they have never met and do not know the
person they're calling such. It's kind of like,
"I can call you a liar, and you can't punch my
teeth in because you can't reach me".

I haven't got a dog in this fight, but I do think
a few on here could hold their tongues a good deal
more, even if their eyes are rolling.....

I agree whole heartedly Don, but then, it is a free country
and people can say anything they want to say.
When they're done saying it, they should thank JDSeller and
the rest of us that put our lives on the line defending that right.
Maybe they were too busy smoking but not inhaling.

JD Seller,
I just started on this board in April of this year. I have followed your posts and recognize a fine Gentlemen that is willing to help people

I am sure the majority want you back. So hope you decide to join us. If not,in this free country, I will also respect that decision.

If you join another Forum I would appreciate knowing where so I can follow your knowledge and very interesting posts !

The best to you, Bill

As I said in the first post (before it went away)...

I enjoy JD's posts. If he does not come back here - then I hope his uncle saw my post requesting that he wish JD and his family well.

And as I also said in my reply to JD's uncle - I have no time for those who make derogatory remarks while hiding behind "guest" handles.

Your post reminded me of so many things JD did.....always self-lessly.....just cuz it was the right thing to do, and without agrandizement......like helping Steve and his family,....etc. His knowledge is impressive, but moreso, his willingness to help everyone who asked. We are all poorer if he doesn"t come back!

Nothing to do with havesting, but,,,,,Ben in the nursing home was sure happy when J.D. Seller sent him a package of goodies,,,,,,and that is a very true story,,,no way to poke holes in it ,,I say J.D. Seller is a fine man,I have witnessed it.I dont know much about big farming operations, but I recognise a kind hearted man so I wholeheartedly vouch for him in that department.

So I have been on the road and not on here what is going on? Somebody called JD out on the corn day..and now he is gone. Remember when some one called his hand on the trucking wreck. I would really like to meet the fellow, he and I are always going at it over the green and my orange tractors but I still think he is one H,,, of a fellow. Some body pm me and let me know what the story is.

I think there are several reasons for what happened to JD. First is as said that some are too quick to condemn. But there is blame for everyone here. JD did help a lot and was very helpful and knowledgeable, but like the rest of us he was wrong sometimes too. I know nothing of jd machinery so I can't help there, but I do know about a few things and I know of a few times where JD commented on those subjects and was either inaccurate, misleading or outright wrong. The problem is not that he was wrong, because everyone is wrong from time to time, but that so many here are so anxious to back him up. I have seen more than one person say that I trust JD so I'm going to go with him, even tho I knew he was wrong. If someone would dare to question him, a lot of folks on here would quickly jump on the person questioning Jd and get just as nasty with the person who questioned JD as the people who disagree with him do. I know that a lot of people would not even think of expressing a different opinion to JD because the backlash from his supporters would be swift and sure, so it was not worth the hassle. This happens a lot with him and some other people too. I think this type of thing is what helped contribute to the willingness of some to jump on JD when they had a chance. If people know that there is no chance to disagree with someone then they may be more likely to point out problems than for someone who it is allowed to disagree with.

JD is what most everyone would say is a good man. Those two little words are high praise in my book. He's helped many people individually and is a real asset to this site.

What I don't understand about him with all knowledge and experience, is why he lets a few fools get under his skin instead of just ignoring them.

I hope he comes back again and I think he will.

Mike, agree with everything you said. I'm sure JDSeller is not correct 100% of the time, but I'd bet serious money that he's right a lot more often than most of us. I see no fault in the man.

If you'll fire me an e-mail I'll send you the account of the Vietnamese girls. I have a library of JDSeller stories.

I know I'm a day late on this and should shut up,but you said it exactly the way I wanted to Jon. Every time somebody asked about buying a White 2-135 or 2-155 he told them that they were extremely hard and expensive to get engine parts for. Kept saying they were Agco only. I told him more than once that he was confusing the Hercules 478 in those tractors with the 585 Moline engine in the 2-150s. Those 585s are the ones that you don't want to have to overhaul. It didn't do a lick of good. He kept on spreading the same falsehood as if he had an agenda. Seems like he got a commission if he steered the person toward a 4430-4440-4630 or 4640 Deere. I just had to ask myself,if he was wrong about that and wouldn't admit it,what else was he wrong about? It just ruined his credibility with me.

WOW! Did I open a can of worms? I didn't know JD Seller was long gone... He was a trooper. I hope he comes back. I have heard my share of whoppers, back in the day, but it's his sotry, let him tell it, and for all we know, he probably did the impossible. I don't question that stuff. I have had my share of unbelievable times in my life. Good for having a cell phone camera to capture some of them that no one would believe me on! I just wanted to thank him... Sincerely. He put a lot of time int his reply to me and it helped since I hate John Deere. I hate farming with them and I own a few. I know nothing about them. But, I have to make due with sub-par machinery since I am poor and can't afford a real color combine. John Deere is the biggest junk ever. But JD Seller knows how they ru and he got me through. The other day, when I was peeing on the tire of the John deere, I thought about him. I was thinking about everyone who has to farm with those terrible green pukes.

Now I ma just stirring the pot, but originally I didn't meant o do that. I hope all is well. As I watch the corn price sink while I harvest, I will be thinking of everyone who planted outside of their means. I hope we all break even this year.

thanks to all who replied. It was like reading a novel on his life. I didn't know about the friction. I'm just glad we are all here to tell the tale.

Also, incase you didn't get it, and you aren't a fan of JD Seller but love John deere... John Deere is the biggest stink bug of a company ever and I hope they croak. They are garbage. JD Seller should be ashamed for admitting he likes them. New Holland is superior.

Now that's how you stir the pot!
