soybean drydown...

My first year with growing soybeans, and I have been told that they dry down fast. It has been very rainy here in Michigan for the past two weeks, so moisture levels in my beans have jumped and most all harvest except high moisture corn has stopped. We have had three days of dry weather and tomorrow is supposed to be sunny again as was today. I checked my beans today and tried running some, 14.5 moisture, needless to say I stopped. Will, or could they possibly dry down to 13 by tomorrow or Tuesday so I can run them before the next rains later in the week? That might sound silly, but are my hopes of getting them in before the rain all for nothing?

13 by tomorrow is very possible. They change quick on a good drying day. My personal opinion, and some may disagree.....at 14.5, I'd run them

If you get a sunny day with wind you should see them dry to what you want. Beans are funny in that they absorb moisture just about as fast as they loose it.

Yup me to. Run them. If the beans are mature they can be 14 at 10am and be 12 at 2pm.

I would rather sell 14.5 and take the moisture dock then sell them at 11 and loose the weight.

If you have a fan in the bin or if it is cold and move them before spring they will be fine.

I would combine them at 14.5, as said a lot of money lost between 14.5 and 11. They do change very fast.

Run 'em! It's darn close to November, put 'em in the bin! As others have said, beans can go from 14 to 12 in a few hours. Better to take a very small dock for a couple of points of moisture than to run empty pods thru the combine next spring.

Take them off now. At 14.5 I would rather take the small dockage on moisture then have the rains come again and cause ruts by going into a wet field. Or not get to them at all, or have the beans be so ripe that they start dropping pods. I took mine off here in Ontario two weeks ago between rains. The variability within the field was astonishing. Anywhere from 12.5 to 16.8. Even had some re-plants that were 19 (only about 75 bushels worth). Average was around 13.7. Those beans can dry down a couple of points easily by 2PM.

I have some out also. About a hundred acres. I cut some Friday at 14.8 and started at 15.8. I am going to start again Tuesday. They may be back to about 14 by then. They may dry faster if it warms up some. I want to get them out by Wed. if I can.
So your not in the only one in this boat.

Whatever they are, cut them tomorrow. 14.5 in the last week of October would be a winner for me too.....

And yes, they could easily be 13 by tomorrow.....

Run them now, at 11 you'll lose more flying off the head. I'd take the small dock. Bet you hear them hitting the windshield at 11.
