hydraulic connetions on Oliver 1550

I have a terrible time connecting Pioneer couplings on my Oliver 1550. Anyone have a solution? Is there any adapter such as what John Deere put on their new generation outlets, where you don"t have to slide the outside sleeve and push the hose into it at the same time? Currently I have a one way hydraulic hoist holding a wagon up in the air and can"t connect the hose because of pressure on the line. HELP !!!

Your just going to find a way to relieve the pressure in that line, no magic tricks that I know of.

Anything that remains loaded, meaning fluid on had will be an issue re coupling. A gate valve installed would be the only answer i can offer. As you know the hose is trying to relieve and you could get soaked are even hurt by the oil discharge.

With the tractor OFF,move the lever back and forth several times to relieve pressure before you unhook the hoses.Tap the 'ball' on the drawbar to 'pop' it open, thus relieving pressure. You can buy the 'JD 'type' connectors but they are expencive.

Don"t get under it and rely on a bunch of hydraulic stuff. Good way to get hurt or dead! I would cut some posts to support the box and then do like all farmers do. Take the hose and hit the ball in the end of it on the draw bar to relieve the pressure. Hook it back up and raise the box remove the posts and as my friend Billy would say "raise er on down"

That trick will work on IH, Case, and JD but not on an Oliver when the engine is off you cannot relieve the pressure in the couplings by moving the lever.

That method won't work on the olivers. The levers are dead without the tractor running. Sounds like he's between a rock & a hard place. And a very dangerous situation to boot.

I've got pioneer 8250 couplers on my 1600. With them mounted solid in the bracket they sell, they'll couple pretty easy. Just push the couplers in.

I have heard of teeing in a small 1/4 turn valve in the tractor to relieve the hose pressure. Turn the valve and dump the oil on the ground. Those ollies of that era were set up so the hydraulics were locked when the engine wasn't running so you could not relieve the pressure by pulling the lever. On my 88 i have a couple if old IH couplers with levers to flip that help the coupling process.Jim

Best I can offer is to say you need the kind that you can just push the tip in instead of having to pull back to push the tip in. And that it's darned hard to plug them in anyway with the engine running.

If you have a hydraulic hoist holding a wagon up, I
don't think you will get any type of connector
plugged in. That is a lot of pressure. Most couplers
will not connect with any pressure on them. You will
probably have to use a loader or something to hold
the bed up while you connect the hose.

I just bought pioneer tips for mine and domt fit thought i lined them correctly at store inside has tip and o ring oudside has ball same as complete package at store 2 differnt kinds ? they have one for hookup under pressure

As mechanic Fred said, you need to relieve pressure on your implement side first. Put in a post or two or four to support the wagon, then take wrenches and loosen the tip in the hose to let the pressure out.

Shoup manufacturing has a coupler with a shut off built in to them you just turn the lever then uncouple them they are supposed to be able to be recoupled then to. Or go to a junk yard and buy a couple of the old IH ones that have the levers they will couple with or without pressure on them and have done it.
The Shoup site does not show them you would have to call them.
