Has anybody ever mowed with a Massy-Harris Pony? I bought one this summer and it has to go in almost full throttle to mow even light second cutting. Heavy stuff will make it bog down and stall even as fast as it will go in first gear. I've adjusted the register and the knives are sharp.

Hi, I cannot answer your question. Although today was in a conversation with a person that was telling me what a great tractor the Pony was to mow with . Cheers, Murray

Sickle bar mower should take almost no power to run.

Adjust the valves. Ignition tune up. Compression check.

I have 2 M-H Ponies but I have never worked them.
I think you are dealing with less than 15 hp.
When I take mine to parades a very steep hill
will work them really hard.

Thanks for the replies. It could be low on power but it runs good and doesn't smoke. I had one 60 years ago but it was new. I don't remember having any trouble mowing. I'll be putting a small engine on the drawbar for "live" power.

Did you triple check that new pitman arm? And the timing of the section bar? If those are still off at all, well.... 200 horse would atleast pull the grass up by the roots...

Hi I have an Earthmaster with the same Cont N62 engine (they are 15 hp by the way)and it handles my 5' sickle mower in 2nd gear with no problems, my engine has less than 50 hrs since OH, only trouble I've had is in very thich fine grass that can clog the cutter bar.
