dimensions on a newer JD MFWD utility rim

I am looking for the dimensions on a JD MFWD front rim off the newer utilities, 5325, 5425, 5055e, 5065e, etc.

I am trying to go to R4s on my NH3930 and not having much luck finding 18" rims. 16.5" rims will not give me the right tire height to keep the 4wd ratios right.

The measurements off my NH front rim are: 8 lug, 8 5/8 inch center hole, and approximately 10 3/4 inch lug spacing (~285mm)

Seems Ford/NH outfitted a few utility tractors with a 20" rim with R4s, but no luck finding any. The 18" R4 on the front of the JDs looks real close, and more common. Worthington Ag is looking for a few right now, but I need to verify hub and lug dimensions first.

Right now I have 9.5x24 R1s on the front, cant find that dimension in an R4 anywhere.

Thanks,
Rick

I'd be worried about the OD not matching up to the gear ratio frt. to back ?

Also looks like you are doing some field work. You might not be all that happy with R4 as you will loose some traction.

if you"re farming with that tractor going to R-4 will be the worst mistake you could make,...little bit of mud and you"re done...went from r-4 to ag tires on my Kubota and had twice the tractor

Hard to check on tractor, looks like 8-11/16" hole and about 11" bolt circle. Like Mike says the ratios have to be right. Mine has Good Years all around and their web site can give circumference. Will need to check both front and rear. Mine has 12.5/80/18 fronts and 16.9-24 HD R4s rear. If it had R1 they would be 9.5-24 front and 14.9-28 rear. Hope this helps, Email open

Jim,

I really appreciate your super fast response. Looks like your rim measures real close to my measurements. I going to try to find a couple rims local.

Your JD gearing must be the same as my Ford/NH. With R-1s it came with 9.5-24 and 14.9-28, the R-4s were 11.2-20 and 16.9-24s. I couldn"t find the 20" rims anywhere. Both of the local NH dealers said they sold a ton of 3930/4630s, and can"t recall anyone wanting the R-4s.

So all that will keep the ratios good. As far as heavy tillage, I do very little if any now with that tractor. I am spending more time on peoples lawns and driveways with my tree spade on. That"s the main reason for the R-4s is to be a little easier on the lawns, plus, its getting time for tires.

Again thanks,
Rick

Mike,
I didn't show you the whole picture... not enough traction and then some. We were doing final adjustments on the tree planter.

Pulling the tree planter cutting a row 12-14" wide and real deep usually 16" but it can go deeper, needs WAY more power than my 3930. Best tractor for this planter is a MFWD around 150hp, but we had to make due this day.

I have another tractor with new Good Year 13.6-28 R1 and they are the same hight as the 16.9-24 R4 so I would think your 14.9-28 would be a little faster than the 18" R4

oops, maybe I didn't say I was going to 16.9-24s in the back when I go to the 18" rims up front.

Based on what I was figured the ratio is about 1% or so different going from the 9.5-24 14.9-28 combo to the 12.5-18 and 16.9-24.

Tractor should sit about 1 1/2 lower too.
