3 point hitch

with the pto engaged the 3 point hitch handle has to be held down. if I release the handle the hitch will rise. Any suggestions welcomed.

May depend on if you are in draft or the other position I forget the name of the other position and which does which. Assume a Ford. I think my draft contol is horizontal as I use my 3 pt as a lift primarily even when I'm plowing. One like you mentioned is for plowing where the soil changes from A to Z and the other is for utility work. Go to the Ford Forum and ask the question.

You didn't say what tractor but, perhaps friction disk needs adjustment or replacement.
