This is how an old man with bad knees and no stamina handles ear corn. Getting set up is the big problem. It's what I refer to as fooling around for two hours to get out of ten minutes work.

What about that sileage corn.It looked awfully nutritious in that bunker. No scooping there or does it need to ferment before being fed.

Looks like it works well. But I have a question. (Probably a stupid one) In this area an open corn crib at ground level like that would have more rattlesnakes in it than corn. I would assume you have copperheads in your area? Just wondering if your really nimble or why you don't have that problem. Just wonderin?

I started right in feeding. Was feeding while I was chopping every day. I grind ear corn and mix it with the silage.

I get bull snakes in it now and then, but no rattle snakes. The bull snakes eat mice. Rats are the most annoying thing in it. They tend to run out between my feet from time to time.

Copperheads aren't native to Michigan. We only have one venomous snake and it's a little rattler that you rarely see.

I hope that you have another Engine on standby ,
running that one without the air filter will be toasted before to long ,

I always put it back on as soon as I shut it off. I've cleaned that thing six ways from Sunday,it's getting good airflow, but the darned thing just won't run with it on there. Been running it for a couple of years without it every time.

Hello rrlund,

That carb looks like a Pulsa-Jet.
Have you tried adjusting the carburetor with the filter on? One thing you have to do before you adjust the carb, is having 1/2 tank of gas. Warm the engine and with the engine @ high idle, turn the adjusting screw until the engine starts to miss. Now...... WHILE counting the turns, go the other way, until the engine starts to miss again. Set the screw in the middle..............you're done,

Guido.

Goes to show what I know! I thought MI had cooperheads! When we were kids we used to feed pigs ear corn. We had corn crib on stilts and a hooper system with a chute on the bottom to fill the basket(or wagon, truck, etc.)Even with that setup once in awhile a snake would come sliding down the chute. More bulls than rattlers(No copperheads in NM either)but still exciting. We used an old fruit basket to carry corn to the hogs. If you filled it the night before you better be darn careful when you picked it up the next day. Your setup reminded me of those days.
