Finished Rippin This Evening

I used my IH 574 Gas Tractor with my one bottom ripper to rip 9 acres. Some of you may remember I built a bullet from a plastic funnel and fiberglass resin. I've posted pictures of that too because some of you wanted to see how it withstood the use underground. It did better that I expected. Hope you enjoy the pictures I would of never taken the pics if I hadn't run out of gas where the tractor sits in the field. LOL.

I forgot to mention I pulled the one bottom ripper in 4 low and never ran the throttle over 1500rpms. IT pulled just fine.

That picture was taken in a 5.5 acre field and it has a nice slope to it. 25 miles to the west of us there are bluffs with some nice hills but on the west side of the bluff it's old river bed good flat sandy soil.

I've never been told what it was for but I can think it is used to open up the bottom of the trench to allow water to flow better. Help drain wet areas.

It's always interesting to see how others farm. We always ripped diagonally to the rows. I always assumed it was so the tractor tires wouldn't fall in the rut during planting/setting. I guess going diagonally also broke up where the tires ran over causing compaction. The only fields around me that get ripped, or subsoiled as it's known here, are tobacco fields and the occasional hay field.
