OT:When to harvest birdhouse gourds?

I grew them about 20 yrs ago and don't remember doing anything special. This year I grew them again and got a whole bunch out there. the pumpkins and squash take care of themselves by dying from wilt/virus but these vines are hardy and still green and growing. Should I wait until hard frost/kill? I don't think I should let the gourds freeze though. After picking should I hang them up in the shed. do they need to be kept from freezing solid this winter? Its a lotta dumb city boy questions but a lot of folks are wanting some of my harvest. thanks

We pick em when we are ready. Freezing has never seem to be an issue. But if we want to use the seeds for the next year, we do bring them in the basement.
