When you're designing a shower if you ask the husband if they want an extra corner shelf about 16" off the floor he'll look at you like Whaaat??
But the wife will usually over rule him and say YES!
This one is a little high but that's where she wanted it.

Pretty typical install.
1/2" Hardee board the lower 5'. 1/2" Green sheetrock above.
This one was actually rather low cost. $2/sf tile.
I leaned on them pretty hard to add a little color/testure so she found a similar inset in a magazine and we added them and the shelves.
If you don't add a little something you end up with a monolithic looking tile job like in a hospital bathroom.
I finished this job today.
They were happy. Well, at least they paid me

We had a guy who owed us money- he wanted to replace our tub with a tile shower to work it off. I was VERY wary- but wife said he'll do fine. Since she was the one who had to be pleased, I went along.

And darned if he didn't do a beautiful job! Coulda knocked me over with a feather. I slipped him a hundred at the end, he said "I thought we were square", I told him we were square, it was a tip. He was very pleased.

Great work. I like the shower head also. If you can't get wet with that, you need to check the water supply.

Things we do for the ladies? Sometimes have to sleep on a mouse infested sofa out in the tool shed and never ever find out why? Beats me. Well, at least now I have a TV out there to make it more accomondating for me and the dog when it happens.

Beautiful tile work. My wife and I have been wanting to get out master bathroom done/finished and I'm thinking seriously about tiling around the existing garden tub. The recessed shelf was a good idea, think I'll have to rob that to include in what I do. When I'm done, if the end result of my tilework looks even half that good, I'll be happy with it.

Beautiful work! I like the large shower heads too.
Joan and I are a foot different in height, so to keep from moving
the shower head all the time I put it dead center in the middle,
hanging straight down from the ceiling when I remodeled.
We like it, but it does take some getting used to.
There's really no "stepping out" of the water.

Did you buy the shelf or is it a regular tile? Did you mount it on top of the field tile or mount it first and tile around?

Store bought shelf. Made of stone.
You imbed it into the tile as you are setting it.
Tile locks it into place - not just the mortar - so no mishaps.

Nice. Re-modeled our main bath last year, replaced everything and fixed a rotted floor around the toilet. Wife wanted to keep a tub so put a new one in to replace the plastic thing that was there. Put mosiac tile around the tub over cement board after fixing the framing that wasn't even attached in some places. She is very happy with it.
