This is what I saw out my window this morning in Terre Haute. Wish I had turned the flash off. Looked better in person. Only lasted a few minutes.

I know the saying, but I don't understand it. Could you explain the meaning behind it.

Kris A NC (now IN)

PS...I saw a similar sunrise up near Rensselaer.

Another one. Evening red, morning gray the wise old farmer mows his hay. Evening gray, morning red the wise old farmer leaves his mower in the shed.

Nice pics and I know what you mean about not lasting long,,, I could not get a sunrise pic this morning but this is what it looks like right now here in NE Wyoming

Red sky at night, sailor"s delight. Red sky in morning, sailor"s take warning. Red sky in the morning means rain/storm coming.

You know the old saying don't you??
Red in the morn sailor take warning, red at night sailor delight so you best duck and cover you got weather coming in

George I saw that briefly in Indy this morning. But our westside house is in a woods. Not enough clearing to take a picture. Thanks for sharing!

The idea behind it is that the sun sets in the west, so it shines through the dust and particles in the air, indicating that it is dry in the west. Since the weather travels west to east, this means the weather to come is dry. I'm not so sure on the sunrise though, because it seems it would simply mean that the weather in the east is dry. If you had a red sunset the evening before, you should have good weather the next day, even if you had a red sky that morning. It is in the Bible in Matthew 16:2-3
