Ford 6635 DT

I"m looking at a Ford 6635 DT 4x4. I"m not familiar with these tractors. Are they good or do they have problems? Not wanting something with a bunch of electronics on it. Will this be new enough to be run by all the little computers? Looking to use it as a chore tractor and haying to pull a 9 ft. haybine and a v rake. Thanks again in advance for all your advise.

The only thing Ford on it is the block lettering... That tractor is a Fiat, pure and simple. I'm not really familiar with that model but IIRC, they morphed into the TL series NH which was a decent basic tractor. I don't know if it's completely free of electronics... might have a PTO control module... but I don't think it would be anything to worry about.

You are correct in being concerned about electronics in a tractor of that age. I am not familiar with that model, but if it has manual shift, PTO engage, and lift position control, as opposed to electric then it would have minimal electronics.

According to a post on Today's Tractors, the engine is obsolete, so who knows what else is NLA. If you plan on keeping the tractor for a long time, meaning parts availability is a concern, the only two brands worth looking at are John Deere and Kubota.

Where did you see that? I highly doubt anything on that tractor is particularly obsolete other than parts that normally go dead on a 15 year old tractor. It's nothing more than a rebadged Fiat of that vintage which was quite common in some places although it was never common here.
I'm sure there's lots of things obsolete and unavailable on your Kubota... and I know Deere has obsoleted a lot of older utility parts in the last number of years...

It appears a 6635 block is still available.

I have got one of these tractors sitting in my shop right now with 1800 hours and a rod hanging out the side of the block. I have been trying for over a month to find an engine. The block you speak of is on backorder with no date for availibility. Some of the TL90 engines will interchange, but have not been able to find one of these either. My customer has a $20,000 piece of scrap iron.

Couldn't tell you for sure. Everything I've ever needed has been available (not that many items.) According to Messicks, I can get a short block for 3303. Head for 1503. I can't complain too much.

Not saying it can't but at what cost? Not sure about camshaft plus magniflux - line boring- grinding of crank-new rod- piston.Gaskets seals etc. Hoping for an easier fix.

I ran a 6635 when it was brand new, fwa ROPs and 7310 loader, 24x12 dual command.

Nice "simple" tractor, ideal for what you want. I believe there was a more basic variant of the newer TL-90 that was only 12x12, dry clutch PTO and less hyd capacity.

I've heard of Ford blocks being fixed that looked very much like that one... I guess if you can't get a block or engine, ya do what ya got to do... I'd also take a hard look at dropping a Genesis plant in there. I've got a feeling it might fit with some modest modification. Mabey not.. Little Cummins might fit too if you could get one with a stressed block.

Hmmmmm. I thought the 6635 was pure Fiat... but that 24x12 is a powerstar transmission. So....... Do you remember if that tractor had top link sensing hydraulics or lower link sensing? IIRC they did some mix and match with that transmission and Fiat rear ends...
My thinking is that if it has the powerstar transmission... then it might not be a big deal to drop a Ford engine in place of the busted block down below...
