Misinterpreted names

So I asked on the Moline forum,is a Moline GVI a G-V-I,or since VI is the Roman Numeral for 6,is it a G6. The consensus was that it's a G6. A model G with a 6 cylinder.

I remember hearing that the Chevy Nova was a poor seller in Mexico because no va meant no go.

Then there was that short lived TV show Joannie loves Chachi not being what people in some country expected because of what they interpreted that she "loved".

Can you think of any other name of anything that was misinterpreted?

We received a letter from the school district a few days ago showing us how much our real estate taxes would go up if the voters approve the $99 million bond issue that the voters have already turned down twice.

Today we got a new flyer in the mail that proclaimed that property taxes would not increase if the bond issue is approved.

Wonder which writer misinterpreted the information?

Lassie of TV fame comes to mind.
I hear the lyrics to songs slaughtered all the time.
BTW, the Nova story was made up. It's not true. :)

"Google" as in the Google search engine. It was supposed to be "GOOGOL" that stands for a "big number." When the creator hired someone to engineer his Web presence - they thought it was "GOOGLE' as in "google-eyes."

(quoted from post at 20:52:47 10/11/13) Royse,

WHAT??!! A teacher told me that in high school - what do you mean it's not true? :)
It's funny, but I suspect most of us here know its not true.
I have heard it from business "trainers" trying to make a point.
People who really should know better, repeating the same type of
misinterpretation they are preaching against!

And how about the VW Pssant? Do people think pizz ant? And the honday Sonata?... It'snota car, it's nose flem.

Taxes never go down and we pay more taxes than most other civilized nations .....but we keep electing the same people over and over. Wonder why it never changes? Look in the mirror.

(quoted from post at 21:12:11 10/11/13) I'm crushed too. You mean Paul Harvey lied?
Nah, just paid advertising. I like the ones on the radio now.
How many DJ's own those $$ select-comfort air mattresses?
And they all bought them from "their dear friend at...." LOL

Just stop and think of what that is telling the kids. (If you keep hounding mom and dad they will give in in the end) This was told to me by kids in our school district when it took 5 times voting to get the new school.

You hit a raw nerve with me. How can they have numerous elections over this bond issue, with each election resulting in a NO vote, but as soon as they get a YES vote, the elections are over. WAIT - let's have another election - I want to vote NO one more time. Sorry - no more elections allowed. Proceed with the tax increase.

A googol is the large number 10100; that is, the digit 1 followed by 100 zeroes:

In 1938, Edward Kasner"s nine year old nephew, Milton Sirotta, coined the term googol which is 10100, then proposed the further term googolplex to be "one, followed by writing zeroes until you get tired". Kasner decided to adopt a more formal definition "because different people get tired at different times and it would never do to have Carnera be a better mathematician than Dr. Einstein, simply because he had more endurance and could write for longer".[2] It thus became standardized to 10(10100).

Edd, you better check your facts. Canada not only has a higher tax rate (15-48% income tax) but higher gas taxes and a nation sales tax on top of that. Add in local and property taxes and it's even higher. Germany too has higher taxes as does Great Britain and France. In fact when I left Germany in 93 they were paying the equivalent of over 5 US dollars a US gallon for gas because of taxes. Guess what? It's all tied to nation health care in those countries. France's tax rate is so high people are renouncing their citizenship and moving to other countries.

FYI it's developed nations, not civilized. All nations have varying degrees of civilization and are therefore civilized, just some more than others.

Further more the post was about misinterpreted names. Not misinterpreted figures.

Some years back, a feller at work bought a new Toyota with that sticker.

Now, this guy was VERY particular about everything. His tool box was arranged just so, his work uniform was always spotless (if he accidentally got dirty, he'd change) and you could eat off the floor of any of his vehicles that I ever saw.

He came rolling in in this brand new refrigerator white Toyota with the TRD logo on the side, all puffed up and proud of his new toy. The guys all ooohed and aaahhed over it as expected. I was kinda standing back so as not to get covered in drool.

Mike asked me, "Well, whaddaya think?"

I sez "Nice truck, Mike, but I don't know as I'd advertise the fact that I was driving around in a t*rd."

It was 2 or 3 days before Mike found it necessary to speak to me again...

PJH:

Don't feel bad, you're not alone.
Here where I live, the MAJORITY of the voters have rejected Incorporation on 3 separate occasions, and STILL the powers-that-be keep trying to ram Incorporation down our throats. What part of NO don't they understand - the "N" or the "O" !

Ford =Found on road dead. FIAT =Fix It Again Tony. Lotus = Loads of trouble usually serious. TVR ( Another British sports car ) Totally Void of Reliability.

In our town when they named the streets we have a 1st. 2nd. Broad, 4th 5th. 6th and so on. What? Why no 3rd. st? Story is that when town was founded the Germans settled on that street and you know how Germans pronounce third so they named it Broad street instead.

Back in the 80"s my uncle bought a new 7080 AC tractor. There was a man in our community who was "tongue tied". I saw him in town one day and he asked, " How duh you unker wike he new Arris Crammer". I couldn"t understand what he was asking until finally his wife came out of the store and she interpreted it for me.

(quoted from post at 19:26:11 10/11/13) Did you notice they never take NO for an answer.

Thats by design. When my town wanted a new school a number of years back, they brought in hired consultants and part of the speach was the explanation and admission that it takes an average of 3 referendum votes before its sucessful. The voting was from the start planned to be much like the nnalert do today, vote till they get the answer they want, then shut down any opposition.

The first referendum was [i:f27f8ca60d]designed[/i:f27f8ca60d] to be light in facts and ment to look poorly prepaired (it was, as they planned it). The second was ment to look more formal and better prepaired and also to address what they didnt know during the first referendum, thats exactly what the people were opposed to. There is no good way to poll a small town to see what would be unpalatable so the first vote is usually a throw away vote, never really intending to pass, just set up to gauge opposition. The second referendum was also for [i:f27f8ca60d]more[/i:f27f8ca60d] money, an key point and part of the plan. The third referendum came in polished and clean with the appearence of addressing what people didnt like about it and it was also lower this time (to make people think the new school was "on sale").

The third referendum passed, as it had been planned from the start. Smart school districts hire consultants from the start so they can play the community like a fiddle and get what they want. They dont make "mistakes" in planning for mulit-million dollar votes....

I saw that ,on a truck and knowing the driver,I was thinking all that was missing is u,but I havent got the chance to spring that on him yet... :)
