Tractor Balancing Platform

Does anyone have pictures or can tell me how to build a balancing platform for a tractor balancing contest?

Cool question. To me the question has to be how to prevent buckling where the I-beams rest on the fulcrum. All the weight would focus at that point, how to prevent the bottom from folding over. I'd think the fulcrum would be a railroad rail. Beyond that, I'd ask the closest structural engineer friend you have, IF IF IF he'll answer the question, how to prevent the buckling.

Yes it would be important to build it right so it would not buckle. I've seen them in years past but I haven't seen any lately. Pictures or advice would help me build one. Railroad iron does sound good as the fulcrum.

Just go to your steel supplier tell him what you are building he will have the answers. It doesent need to be very high in the middle. Channel or H-beam woild be the best.

cross braces stop that. No problem with them moving. C-channel comes with different thickness listed in #lbs per ft

Why not just find an old equipment trailer and use it? You can modify the ends to make a ramp. Sorta like the picture posted previously. Seems it would be easier to start with that than to make it from scratch. Plus, you could make it to pull behind a truck. You might check your local scrap yard for old trailers.

The only problem would be the axle weight. Most trailers are 3500 lbs axles. So it would probably bend it with most tractors.

Dick, Thanks for the picture. It will help a lot. Someone eles suggested using an old trailer deck. I can see where that would be great. (heavy hauler trailer deck.) Does the platform in your picture balance on a beam or does the platform balance and rotate on the wheel bearings?
