My grand son got out of the Army just this last month. He has been home for a while. He is visiting before he starts his new job. Here is part of a speech someone gave at West Point while he was there. I found it funny.

"Okay, here goes. Always remember, there are three ways to do things. There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Army way. Do us all a favor. Try the Army way every once in a while. If nothing else, you can confuse your captain.

Here's another important thing to remember – Never share a foxhole with anybody braver than you are.

If everything is going perfectly, it's probably an ambush.

If at first you don't succeed, call in air support.

Here's a good one – never forget that your weapon was produced by the lowest bidder!

And finally, never forget the Law of War – Murphy's Law. If it can go wrong, it will go wrong, and always remember that Murphy was an optimist."

I thought back to times in the service all of these where true. I had a good laugh thinking of them.

So how about you guys??? Anything you want to share with us that would fit any of the above.

While I wasn't in the Army, but the Navy, , we had a few choice sayings like that. Things don't change much in the military- most of the time it was hurry up and wait. Only big change is that you might have to watch your mouth around all of the ladies.....otherwise, they might embarrass you...

Tracer rounds work both ways!!!!
I was in the army, if it moves salute it, if it don"t move, paint it.
The salute kind of went by the wayside in Nam.

I think a new lesson would be don't try to barrycade veterans out of a memorioal they fought and died for. They WILL improvise, adapt, and overcome!

Viet Nam 1965-66. Big red 1, 18th inf. A whole different relationship with officers over there. They did not wanted to be known as an officer. People would ask how I survived. They told us to DIG IN. I was still throwing sand when I left. HA HA. To bad we were treated so bad by the draft dodgers when we came back.

Heard at Navy firefighting course: at sea you don't call the fire department, you are the fire department!

At Yeoman school: you work next to the co's office if you screw up you better get the Vaseline.

When I was at Ft Belvoir Va above one the engineer class rooms was a sign Nothing is impossible, but the impossible but the impossible may take a little longer. For some reason that has been stuck in my mind after all these years. SSG 57th Engineers Heavy Equitment

From personal experience: A plan is good until first contact! As other commented, TRACERS DO WORK BOTH wAYS:

"This is the US Army, simple problems require complex solutions! 'Simple solutions WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!" Ain't that the truth.

Navy submarine saying: What goes down does not necessarily have to come up.

One of the things I learned as a submariner, was IF we did things right, and didn't screw up, what went down would come up.....

Some times its entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a sledge hammer!!!
