New way around do not call

telemarketers got a new way to get around the do not call list. We have received about 20 calls this week asking for a certain person. Tell them they have the wrong # and immediately they go into their sales pitch, At first I just hung up now I lay the phone down and go do something for about 5 minutes.

I have a 'hold' button on the phone that works great. They're usually off in just a few minutes.

I'm thinking of making this my answering machine greeting.

"I'm so glad you called. I really need someone to talk to but no one really cares about me any more. Do you know what I mean? Do you mind listening for an hour or so to my story? .... It might take longer if I start crying and I have to go and find a box of kleenex or a big towel ...
You see, I haven't been feeling like myself for a while ... "

When ya know it is a telemarketer . just say you don't have time to talk to them .. say you are the local burglar and have to get busy before someone comes , and hang up

I have taken to telling them that I don't donate to any charity
who's name doesn't appear on my caller ID.
They of course try to explain that the charity has hired them
to do the calling.
I then tell them they are proving my point.
If the charity can hire another company to make the calls, then
the charity has plenty of money and doesn't need mine.
They haven't called back.

I sued a telemarketer this year and won!

The specific thing was that they were calling my cell phone, which is even more illegal. You don't even have to be on the Do Not Call List. It's just illegal to call a cell phone with an automated message, or any telemarketing, that you don't have a business relationship with.

It was a fake "prophet," pretending like he's a religious person, but was really just a high class beggar.

He settled for $4,000, the lawyer got 70%, but I didn't mind, it was more about making the telemarketer pay. So that was fun.

Have a CB by your phone. When they call, key the mike. It generates an unbelievable skreech! Learned that when we still had a party line phone in the 70s. Had to call the AI breeder by 11 AM, and the neighbor lady was always on the phone. She never had a clue what/who was doing it. Sports whistle works equally well. Blow and often!

I told a telemarketer I was sorry for them, hoped the economy turns around so they can find a real job that is productive, and don't have to spend their day bothering people. Then hung up.

As I assume most people hang up or are rude most of the time - deservedly so - I wonder if he thought about my words the rest of his shift. ;)

Anymore we don't answer our house phone, nobody ever calls on it that we want to talk to, anyone who knows us calls us on the cell.

If they call and say they are professional fund raisers, the charity gets peanuts. The Kids Wish Network and some of the breast cancer charities contribute less than 5% of their solicitations for the cause. The rest is administrative costs and salaries. We always run a check now.

I just tell them that the Chief is out right now but if they like I can have them speak to one of the detectives. It gets a quick hang-up.

I'll start this by saying that I don't much care for telemarketers.

But when they started passing the laws currently on the books many Americans lost what was an OK paying job. Most telemarketing jobs paid well over minimum wage, over what burger flipping jobs and Wal-Mart pays. On average nation wide it was in the 12-15 an hour range, and that was 10 years ago. We had one in our rural county seat. When they closed the doors they fired about 250 people on all shifts. For a town of 15K that hurts. For the folks that had to find a "real job" that meant loosing 4 to 7 dollars an hour and put many on the [b:34313b0af9]public assistance[/b:34313b0af9] rolls.

No I didn't work for em but I knew people who did.

Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.

It's gotten so bad that we don't answer the phone unless we know who is calling - if it's important they can leave a message.

But occasionally one catches me, and then I tell them whatever they're selling, I already got one. New windows? Just had some put in last week. Annoys the crap out of them... :)

Not so sure they can't call anymore because I thought external_link signed something so he could get ahold of people on the cell phones for his last campaign.

Everyone has their hand out. The DMV is always asking if I want to donate to some cause so was Arby's the other day !
When they asked if I wanted to donate I said no thank you ,but I am accepting donations ! I got a deer in the headlights stare from the young girl. No donations yet. LOL

There was a item

on TV a few years back about this. Most of these people don,t care what you say as long as you pick up the phone it counts as a completed call and they get paid.

Hello BIG Rush,

My new way to deal with them is to pick up and hang up as soon as I can. Most times by the second ring or sooner! If they get paid by the answer time, they are not getting much out of me. I feel good now hanging up on them, they did it to me many times, so.............now its my turn!

I answer the phone "Hancock County District Attorney's Office, fraud division, how can I help you", usually don't get much from them after that
