Tom Clancy Dead at 66

One was "Inside Special Forces"----- regarding the elite Army unit that dates back to its origins in WW2, (actually OSS, Office of Strategic Services), plus the early years of our Country, in the late 1700s, then Korea, Nam, and ever since. For reality, Tom Clancy actually went thru the SF training, like "some" of us did. Yes, a very prolific author, a true patriot, an author that profiled the best of the best in each of our Armed Services. A very talented gentleman who will be missed.

I think I've read 3 of his books. I never really cared for his writing style (too technical) but he seemed to know his stuff. Really liked Patriot Games but then I liked the movie too (book was better). I've heard good reviews for Executive Orders but have not got around to that one yet.

A great writer whose books I thoroughly enjoyed. I think "Sum of All Fears" was his best. I thought he was much older than 66.

My question has always been how did he get his facts and how close to reality were they? One interesting picture in particular where he is decked out in US Naval attire including flight suit on the deck of an aircraft carrier, presumed to be US.

I've got all of his books on tape or disk going back to the early one's like "Cardinal in the Kremlin" and "Red Storm Rising". Play them in my shop while I'm working.

Yes he was a great author sorry to see him pass. Earlier this summer we lost Vince Flynn, always amazed me his stories seemed to reflect what was going on in our terrorist situations. Almost like he was writing of things that were going to occur. Only in his 40"s a talent taken too young

He was a passable author who was successful due to hard work and lots of research. I'd say the most notable thing about Clancy was not so much his own books but that he created a new genre of fiction, the techno-thriller. Hundreds of authors borrowed the style that Clancy created, writing novels that range from excellent to awful.

When you write best selling novels that portray the US military in a good light, as 99% of them are, you tend to get lots of help with your research. But anyone can find out a lot of this stuff by keeping up with military tech. It's even easier today than when Clancy started. Back then you had to actually hit the libraries and other sources like Janes to keep up with things. Now a computer search gives you in a few seconds what used to take hours to find.

Other thing here is "following a brief illness" and "cause of death is unknown". Makes you wonder. Death at 66 for what appeared to be a healthy guy in a mundane occupation from an OSHA standpoint. The big boys are good at snuffing out certain people they feel to be a threat of some sort. We the GP get fed some kind of gullible lie by the NM and it gets swept under the rug. MM is a perfect example!

I saw him interviewed several times. The man smoked like a chimney and was fairly hefty. Between the two...66 is only young if you take decent care of yourself. Andrew Brietbart was lots younger and he died of heart failure......allegedly.

Andrew Breitbart? The guy that ran Brietbart news service and was about to open the flood gates on external_link the day before he died of "heart failure"? That guy. Or you can look at any of the mysterious deaths surrounding the Clintons. Tin foil hat? Maybe. Clancy I doubt was in the same class as he hadn't had a book out in a good 10-15 years.

Who am I? Just a dumb hick sheep farmer.
