Well... how soon can I get back

Well, it rained. First time in 2 months measurably. AND... I had the combine ready to go. That's how it works huh :) So... silly question, how soon can I expect to be able to cut beans now?

That depends on how much rain you got and how the weather
shapes up in the next few days. A very loaded question that
not one of us will beable to answer without being your actual
neighbor and experiencing what you are.

If I was dry for two months and got an inch of rain, it would
only take one good sunny day to beable to roll again.

Rained a 1/2 inch here in SE Iowa on Saturday.

Sun was shinning Sunday.

Monday noon I was running again with beans the same moisture as Friday.

Grab a couple of pods and shell them, should be brittle, now bite a bean should be hard. Mush too green, beans hard and hulls mushy try again three hours later. Around here the pods do not dry enough till around 10:00am.

Rained at 5:30, went to supper with wife at 6:30, while there
hail bounced off the side of the building, open door and water
was sheeting by in white waves, strong wind blowing it.

Couldn't even leave, rained so hard and so nasty.

When we finally could leave was dark out, but could see the
neighbors corn was all flattened down, looked bad what little I
could see.

I had started beans yesterday, hope the hail was pea sized
and didnt pop too many.

Supposed to be the nasty period Friday nite into Saturday, this
was just a warm up.

Didnt have the heart to go look at my fields in the dark, still
lightening anyhow. See what I see in the morning.

As to getting back to the harvest, can be 12 hours to 10 days,
depends how much rain, and what weather you get following.
Had a 5 inch downpour a few years ago, and typical cold
weather after, overcast and cloudy. I sat on my rear for a
week, wife was beginning to wonder why I wasn't thinking
about combining. Took her for a ride on the utility tractor,
almost got stuck 3 times driving around the field edges, my
clay soil doesn't dry out from a 5 inch downpour. She didnt ask
any more about combining, she jnderstood my mood a little
better.

farmeracb, How much rain did you get? I will say... day that today being Wednesday....Sunday or Monday you will be cutting Beans again!
Later,
John A.

John, we had about an inch over all. It rained again today but a tenth or so around 11, and the big time guys were running around 4 to finish up the field by my shop. I doubt my IH 303 has the capacity or HP of the 9770 deers they run. I will probably make an attempt tomarrow if the sun comes out.

Thanks, hope everyone is getting along well.
