driveway alarms

I recently noticed some things have disappeared from one of my sheds. It sits about 200 yards from the house with some trees between them. Does anyone know of a wireless driveway alarm that will reach this far? I would like to think its just some dumb kid, however the neighbor a few mes away has a bad rep for drugs, and so does the guy just over from him has a sticky finger reputation.
I talked to a deputy friend and he said he will stop by this week. I'm not missing anything that $50 wouldn't cover so the three S's are not a good idea :)

We have a Dakota driveway alarm that is a motion sensor alarm. We have run it on our farm driveway which is about a mile from where we live. It is the Dakota model m538. Works about 90 percent of the time.

I've heard that Claymore makes a pretty good alarm.
Plant a couple in the wheel tracks and it will let folks up to a mile away know that someone has entered your driveway without authorization.
They prevent theft before it happens too so no tedius calling the sherrif and having to press charges after the fact.

Sounds messed up but, you could do other stuff than the driveway alarm.
Like, booby trap of fox urine on the door to the shed, have a big pile of dog p**p at the entrance.

But the best thing is to have one of those trail cameras setup to catch them in the act.

Trail camera, set higher up than eye level, aimed at any approach you suspect. Once you have pics, you can post them on line, or plaster them up all over town!

Oh, that would work just great! I would forget that I had put them there, in just about a week, and blow my own bu** up...lol

No, on driveway alarm. I tried putting one outside pole barn door. Real bad idea, critters will set them off, too many false alarms late at night. I have one inside barn. If a bird gets inside, yet a false alarm. I think a large butterfly set it off once. A shaking air compressor may have set it off too. My driveway alarm is only good for 300 ft. You may want to use some kind of simple alarm like a switch making contact when door is opened. Motion sensors produces too many false alarms. Pit bull may work better.

Yeah, pit bulls may be the answer. There is no power to the shed, and the nearest power is 2-300 feet away.

I had a thief stealing diesel and other things. I had a trail camera set up and his picture was taken. The sheriff knew the guy but didn't make an arrest. The sob came back later and broke into my barn and got a lot of tools, a 22 rifle and other things. This time he was arrested and spent 30 days in jail and was released. He had the 22 in his pickup when arrested and I got that back. I was not notified when the trial was to take place. The DA said I couldn't get any restitution unless the guy got into trouble again. They usually case the joint the first night and come back another night sometimes on stormy nights. They do sell wireless driveway alarms for about $10. I believe you can get them at most hard ware stores.

I don't know if I want to confront someone stealing from me at 3am,might get myself killed.I'll just collect the insurance money.

I agree that motion sensors have too many false alarms. They do make driveway sensors that are buried beside the driveway and detect passing metal objects like car size.

A gate across the drive creates enough inconvenience to stop thieves many times but of course if it's flat firm ground all around they'll just drive around it. A board with nails in it laid across the drive will help too.

My alarm is battery powered. Eats batteries like crazy, so I got a radio shack power pack for the house and one for the barn. The barn's power pack also keeps the rechargable 9v backup battery topped off. My barn is only 175 feet away with a security light in front of the only two doors that face the house.

I think I have ghosts in my barn that sets it off. My alarm is wireless too. Something will trigger it my mistake. No fun getting up in the middle of the night.

Thought of a dog, but boss said no. She once had a dog and someone shot it.

Use an "Electric Eye" like the stores use; it's actually a focused Infra-red beam. You can reflect the beam with mirrors completely around your shed, then reflect the beam up to another mirror on the eaves which would then reflect the beam to a receiver on your house eaves which would set off an alarm.

If I go out in my yard at night I take my shotgun. It won't kill anyone except at point-blank range, but they'll sure WISH they were dead - it's loaded with ROCK SALT & MUSTARD SEED!

nothing will stop a serious crook,
but when I owned a 140 pound Rottweiler
I put a chain across my driveway, just off the right of way, with a
big beware of dog sign on it
to keep idiot salesmen, etc, from just walking around back where he was chained. Good dog, but it wasn't a good idea to surprise him.
Dog passed away many years ago, but I left the chain, sign, up.
still works!

We have a "DAKOTA ALERT" on our 200 foot drive.
It picks up Racoon"s, Fox, but not Rabbits, and
picks up people walking, and vehicles, and beeps
in the house, and, through a relay, turns on a
500 watt spotlight aimed down the driveway. We
like it, and would purchase one again.

Last time I took a gun with me to see who was parked at my farm shop I chased two guys off, they called the cops and said I held them at gunpoint. The cops acted like I was the one that was in trouble. They even called the prosecutor to see if I should be arrested. They didn't do anything, just told me to call the cops and leave the guns to them.
