Ford 6.7 Diesel Issue

My truck has 59K on it.

It appears that a failure of a thermocouple for EGT will cause the following message "Stop Safely Now".

I did so, shut off the engine and would not crank over after this. I let it cool, reloaded the default program, which reset the computer and it restarted. I have it home now. It appears this is a not so uncommon issue. I believe it would have restarted if I had unhooked batteries and reset without reloading, but it was pouring rain.

I am thinking about keeping a spare in the truck.

BTW Bryan, Corolla runs good. I am going to check out front brakes and CV joints this weekend. I appreciate the help.

i carre a spare cps and a 10mm wrench taped to the box in the center console on both my 7.3psd's.. just for insurance..

If your programmer will show data, a faulty exhaust temp sensor is easy to spot. Have fun getting them out. They didn"t think it was necessary to put anti seize on them at the factory.
The one hour lock out is if the exhaust is overheating the truck doesn"t spontaneously combust. If just one sensor showed an overheat condition and your truck shut down, you don"t have the latest software from Ford.
