Power outage

Darn power went now I have to run on batteries. I tried to start the generator but the battery in it was dead. So here we sit by candle (well modern battery powered lights) power good thing this IPad works.

I might recommend calling the power company for the outage, and keep calling. Last outage we had, the service men never got the call, and we wereout for some time. I finally drove over to the service barn, and they were here very promptly. The service men never got the message.

I'm helping/advising a neighbor install his backup generator and had him purchase a battery trickle charger/maintainer so when he really needed his generator, hopefully its battery wont be dead grrrrrrrrrrr I dont have a per se stand alone genset but my RV has a 4 KW Onan and it can start either via the 460 amp hrs (4 golf cart batteries in series/paralell) of house batteries that are coupled to solar panels and charge controller or else the engine battery.

I dont have an I Pad or even a "smart" phone, only an old "dumb" flip phone lol I guess Im wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy behind the times

Our power was out last week. We ran on batteries too but we've got a 48 volt battery bank hooked to a pair of 6000 watt inverters that can run our entire house for three days.

Walt,
I use my genny for more than power outages, so it gets used many times a year. Also when I add gas I add staybil.

All the "staybil" in the world won't keep the battery from going dead.

So what was wrong with your car/truck/tractor and some jumper cables to get the generator going?

Why do most people "need" generators anyway? We had a generator because the electricity always went out while we were milking cows. As soon as chores were done, the generator usually got shut off.

When you are the last drop on the grid, at the end of 1400' drive and lightening hits the lines frequently or a tree falls across the power lines, you need a backup. I have a Generac 6.5 Kw that insures I will not lose the 1/2 of a steer and the venison that are in my freezer.

I learned a good lesson I am setting my generator up behind the shop where I plug it in and getting it ready to go. The power company said a tree fell on the main line the power was back by 9:30 so all was well, we a great power company they get right to the job and get things up and running.

I think you might be ahead of the times. My wifes kids can't understand I don't have an Iphone. They told me to sell my Honda generator and get with it. The reply was how do I run the refrigerator, freezer, furnace, and water pump with an Iphone.

If the genny sits long enough to allow the battery to go dead, chances are his gas is old too.

What do you mean, staybill doesn't keep a battery fresh?

Been using a stand alone 5000 watt genny for years. Not convenient since its not wired to a transfer switch and I have to run drop cord to freezer/fridges, furnace, etc but it's a whole lot better than a cold house and spoiled food. Power has been a lot more reliable since I got it.
