2N ford with 5 foot King Cutter rotary mower

I have been using a 4 foot rotary John Deere mower with my 2N ford. Bought a 5 foot used king cutter mower and repaired it. Have it connected to my 2N ford. Hydraulics lift it easily. At this time of the year tall grass is gone. Would like to know experience others have had with a 2N Ford and a 5 foot rotary mower. Is this a good combination or is the 5 foot mower too much mower for a 2N? The mower came with a ford jubilee which I now own. The jubilee had no problem with the 5 foot mower.
The Jubilee needs repair work prior to using it again. Good winter project

It fits, run it. Be sure it is sharp. make sure the front is 1/2" lower than the rear (prevents cutting multiple times).
If it seems under powered, use a partial cut! Jim

a 5 ft brush hog on a 9N-2N or 8N will work just fine. We cut bahia grass and it is tough stuff. Keep the blades sharp, keep the back end of the mower just a little higher then the front and use an over running clutch.
Your lil 2N will work hard in deep grass but you can always take a 3/4 strip if you get into a deep area.

The photo below is my mother in-law on her 1950, 8N and the wife on her 1947, 2N both are running 5ft brush hog type cutters. The photo was taken in 2006 we are still using both tractors and the cutters today.

We used ours on a JD M (20 pto hp) but it was a little short on power, depends on what you are cutting. When the canary grass is above my head on the tractor it take all our 4600 has (37 pto hp).

Over running clutch s good idea. the 2n I have has an 1 3/8 spline shaft adapter over the original 1 1/8 pro. Have to find out if there is an ORC to fit the original 1 1/8 pto

There definitely is one that fits the 1 1/8 and will adapt to 1 3/8
at the same time. I have a few of them.

Good information and great pictures. We have an 8 N in addition to our 2 N. Information on tractor data.com shows that the 8n has a more powerful engine.
Engines look the same with the difference being location of distributors. The 8 N has the distributor on the side and the 2N has the distributor in front.

Have used both a 9N and an 8N to run a 5' KK mowing pastures since 2002. Works great, but wish I had a slower gear. In the real heavy grass stuff it would be handy.

W-B,
I agree, a slower gear would be good for many things I do with my 8N and my 2N. It seems that the low gear in my 2N is slower than the low gear in my 8N.
