OT, Mobil Oil logo

There are enough "old timers" on this site I thought I would try this question; When I was a kid back in the 50s Mobil Oil had the pegasus as its logo at every gas station. I seem to remember that the red flying horse had an "identity" nick name. I want to see if anyone else remembers what I do. All the research I have done has turned up nothing.

Yes remember the name and the red horse. Wondered why they did not keep the horse in the logo..

There was not an abundance of Mobil stations in the area where I grew up, but the impression of the red horse lives on. As someone else said,I didn't know what his name was until I was grown, but I never heard that he had a nickname.

The old Mobil logo was a Pegasus. And that's what it was called.

Mobil (no e on the end) owned Magnolia. They eventually rebranded the Magnolia stations Mobil.

Serendipity was the name of the Marathon (gas station logo) runner.

Jim,
Like I said in the other topic you started, I've collected petroliana for 30 years. I have friends in the hobby that were major players in collecting Mobil petroliana. One is a retired Mobil distributor. The other is retired from Mobil's corporate offices. They had the 2nd and 3rd largest Mobil collections. Both have sold their collections. The logo was called a Pegasus. There was no real nickname for it. I've heard a very few collectors recently call the Pegasus Peggy.

Yes with Pegasus flying in all his glory and you could pump white gas out of the glass filled gravity feed pump for your lanterns and other things that couldn't stand the lead that was in the pumps out front.
