Every couple of years some guy stops at the house selling T bones and rib eye steaks. He has a chest freezer the the back of his truck. Always has only a couple of packages of steaks left and will give me a good deal so he can quit for the day. Always tell him we raise and butcher our own beef. Says it's not healthy to eat non inspected meat. I've been eating non inspected meat all my life and it ain't killed me yet. Then he say it's against the law to sell it. We're not selling it, we're butchering it for our own use. Told him to leave before I call the sheriff. He finally got the idea that I didn't want to buy any of his meat. Lord only knows what kind of meat he's selling

Comes through here from time to time... His opening line is, "Do you like STEAK?"
Yeah, but not yours! I'm guessing he has outdated meats from the stores. I don't want to know where he got them. Let's see how fast you can get your truck outta my driveway and on the public road!

Guy stops here twice a year.I've bought beef and fish from him maybe 3 times.Quality stuff each time. When I didn't buy I said come look in my freezer. It was packed. All he said was "maybe next time" and he went on his way.

Missouri plates on his truck? They come by here too. Same story. We raise our own beef. He won't take "no" for an answer. He fanned out a bunch of packages of meat on our porch steps, right where the dog had been laying. He picked it up and had dog hair all over the packages. Acted like he didn't notice and threw it back in his freezer. I imagine if there's anyone illegal concerning meat, it would be him.

One comes here all the time he dropped off a free samples trying to drum of some business of all places at the local grain dealer she gave me a couple as if I don't have enough of my own it was tougher then shoe leather and stank up the whole house the dog wouldn't even eat it.

Town 20 miles from here had a string of break ins this summer all associated with recent visits from a roving meat salesman.

People like that get the old walk out with a 44 mag on my side and then total do you not know how to read. If they say what I say you passed a no trespass sign back there so you best think about the fact your trespassing at this time so you leave or else

Reminds me of my FFA project in my senior year. I raised some chickens, thought that would be easy. I butchered them all one Friday and put them in a barrel of ice water in the back of Dad's pickup.
Saturday morning I headed to town with them. I had real good luck selling them, was down to my last chicken, feeling good, had a date that night and a pocket full of cash.
I pulled in to a yard and the woman came to the door. I asked her if she wanted to buy a dressed chicken. I climbed up in the back of the truck and pulled it out of the water. She asked me how much it weighed? Shoot,I didn't know,I was selling them by the piece not the pound, but I kind of hefted it up and down and said "3 pounds". She said well, the preacher was coming for Sunday dinner and she really needed a 4 pounder. I really wanted to get rid of that last chicken,so I pushed it back in the barrel, swirled it around, lifted it back up and said "there you go,there's a 4 pounder".
She kind of dug around in the bottom of her purse and said "you know what? I've got a little more money here than I thought I did,I'll take'em both".

A coworker of mine had a guy that would come to his house and his parents house a few times per year to sell just like you mention. Out of the truck of a car or something. The meat was good quality..........But.......after he earned their trust in a few years he stopped buy and said, you have to pay in advance. His parents forked over $200 for steaks and roast beef, the guy skipped town, no business card, no phone number. Who knows maybe he died in a car wreck. I do not think I could buy beef out of the back of a car or truck. It could very well be stolen from a butcher or something.

Could be the same guy as we don't live that far apart, truck did have Missouri plates. I'm about 50 east of Pinckneyville
