Old grain truck problem

Wouldnt you know - I haven't touched the grain truck since harvest but still broke it somehow.

1958 GMC. Got it out today to run to the neighbors and the two speed axle doesn't work. The speedo doesn't work anymore and I didn't go far, but it felt like it was on the high side. High for that thing maxes out at 50 so it is hard to tell.

The fuse isn't blown. The speedo compensator is clicking. The power to the rearend switches between the two wires but it isn't doing anything. Are there contacts or anything in that motor that I could take apart and clean? Anyone know? I feel like I should count my blessings that it has worked this long but with a straight 6 I really need to be able to split gears!

Anyone know whether a starter shop could rebuild that shift motor?

Could also just need a cleaning. I have a C60 and a F600. Both just needed a cleaning. Yep 55 maybe 65 in high down hill.

mine did the same thing. They draw water & it rusts/corrodes the inside stuff. I just replaced the unit. Quick & not too expensive.

Parts for or a complete two speed shift units should be available from any shop that services trucks.

The most common problem is the switch followed by the screw assembly. If you need a motor also the complete unit is often cheaper.

with the ign on engine stopped move the selector button and listen for the shift motor to operate if you can't here it in either direction it may just be stuck,if it's in high then move button to low with wheels CHOCKED trans.in neutral and ign on tap the top of the motor housing lightly a lot of the time that will free them if only stuck,or the points behind the cover below the motor are stuck corrioded or broken the housing is supposed to contain 20wt oil gear oil may have gotten into it guming it up, if you heard the motor running and it won't shift the set of points, shift spring or shift screw and block behind the cover below the motor has a problem, napa still list the motor, points and selector switch, best bet is locate and old parts house most likely got them on the shelf

You can probably buy the motor dirt cheap at a truck parts place... Likely less than a hundred bucks.
