Military 5 ton

Couple of years ago I was looking for a deuce and a half and I think it was old that suggested I get a 5 ton instead. My son talked me into letting him take it to a local tractor pull in Marilla NY. 2nd gear in low range. 216 feet in the hotrod semi class. Not too bad says the proud father. Bill

They are fun old trucks but ride like a tank and will not get you there fast but will just about pull any thing you want. Big problem is it is very hard to get insurance on them

We ran drawbar pull on those trucks at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Use this heavy dynamometer for the lower gears. We didn't need the trailers. Hal

If you need/want another one, there are a couple coming up on an online sale at hansenandyoung.com. (not mine, don't know seller)

No Old they don't "ride like a tank". Tanks ride much, much better than that!.

Back in 68 I was driving(?) a very tired 2 1/2 ton in Germany. Had a loong hill and I was down to 2nd gear, the 5 ton wrecker (multi fuel) with another 2 1/2 on the hook pushed me up the hill. I think we were going about 50 mph when we topped out. Talk about power!

I drove the M816 5 ton wrecker for 15 years in the National Guard. Very fast truck. Until I passed the division commanders staff car one night. Towing a duce half and a 151 plus the trailer.75 miles an hour. He got my number and had the repair shop reset the top end. I had it reset by a guy from Cummins.Don't ell me they wont run that fast. Because I know they will and so does the DPS trooper that pulled me over one day.

just bought a m105a2 trailer to go with it. Trailer was totally reconditioned in 2008.Sticker on it shows price to government was $8600. Drove from Buffalo ny. to Dayton ohio to pick it up. Paid almost as much in gasoline to flatbed it home as I paid for it.Bill

Old,finding that out about the ride and not getting there fast. This one does not have a heater. Getting close to the time of year it would come in handy. and my hat is off to you guys that had to drive them in the summer, awful lot of heat coming up through the shifter hole and floor boards. Bill

Yeh, the least he could have done would be to pull it all the way around the track back to the starting point so that it was ready for the next contestant . . . and set a few world records to boot! LOL
