Had a guy and his just turned 4 yr old son Judah out at my MX track today. They were out 2 weeks ago and the Judah was into heavy equipment so I put him on the Cat(with me)and let him lift the bucket up and down. His dad said he never stopped talking about it!

Today after riding around the main track on his 50 with training wheels, I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride. YES!!! We hopped on the Cat and drove about 100 yds. over to an old dirt pile full of weeds. Then we backed up, flipped the seat over and dug up the weeds with the backhoe. When we finished his dad told him to say thanks, which he did. Then he started asking about the skid steer. His dad said don't be greedy but I said I could use some help, so next time you come out we'll run the skid steer. If he's only half as thrilled as I would have been at that age to run the real Tonka toys, I think he'll be on cloud nine for quite a while. He does really good on his dirt bike too!

Little did I know when I was younger that owning the
real Tonka toys takes a lot of money to keep them
working. LoL

Good for you....that is what is needed to keep them interested. I know he will remember those rides for the rest of his life. I can remember my dad taking me on his tractor when I was a child and I can remember him going into the dealer to buy the tractor that replaced it when I was 4 years old! And I am now 52 and cannot remember what I did last week!
LOL.....Sam

Maybe that's where my Dad went wrong. I remember riding home from the dealer's on our brand new MT with him when I was about four. I wish I knew where that tractor is today.....

When I was 6 (52 years ago) my Dad was having the woods cleared out by a man with a dozer. We had a large brush fire going at the time. The man let me sit beside him while he pushed some of the brush onto the fire and worked on the field.
I was so excited that I drew a picture of it all and surprisingly my Mom dug it out of the bureau a short while back.
I remember it like it was yesterday, thanks for posting.

I was buying some lumber at Menards. The young lady asked for my phone number. After I gave it to her, I turned to my girlfriend and said, " Don't be jealous when she calls." The girls face lit up and she tried not to laugh.

It did not cost me anything to brighten her day.

Too bad the cashiers at the nearest Menard"s here aren"t that friendly. Come to think of it, the only friendly cashier I"ve found in North Platte is the old lady that takes your money at the tower at the rail yard.

North Platte is not into PR. They think that it we are to bow to them because they are there. I do most to my shopping on line as I done need the PR and it is way cheaper.

Back in 1977 after farming with well used equipment I was able to buy new John Deere 4030. As I was working out of state week needed to pickup tractor, I asked my retired and ailing father if he could follow my 10 year old son home the 10 miles from dealer. My son had been riding with me since age 4 and driving himself since 8. Only near time of my fathers death did the secret between those 2 did the truth come out. Son drove the tractor out of small town and another couple of miles. Then at 10 he drove dad's pickup while dad drove new tractor. Yes now my own grandson and I have a couple of secrets his mother may or may not ever know. An old fart moved back to painful humid changeable weather and GRANDKIDS and loving it!!

That's pretty neat. One of my grandsons is four years old also. His mother (my daughter) and her husband are in the Navy living in Washington. He was out to sea last winter so my daughter and grandson (Henry) came to see me on the farm for a couple weeks. I let Henry drive the tractors, skid steer and the four wheeler every day he was here. They leave and go back to Washington. This summer his mom took him to a "tourist farm" in the Washington DC area. They had tractor/wagon rides etc.......my daughter said Henry threw a ring-tail fit because they wouldn't let him drive the tractor! His mom said Henry said "I KNOW how to drive that tractor!! 'Made me proud!

Ya'all be careful with the kids on moving machinery. If they fall it could be tragic. Got a 4yr old grandson who has gotten a few rides on the tractor, seems to think he's gotta be on the machinery every time I move something. NOPE! We're going to be selective about when you ride!
But, yeah, kids absolutely love rides on the machinery.

One thing that absolutely makes me furious is a kid riding with an "adult" on a riding mower - mowing. I want to stop the car in the middle of the road, run over and choke the adult, right on the machine!

Totally agree with you on the riding mower, mowing. Former neighbor did that on a new zero turn at about 10 MPH! I cringed every time as it wasn't a one time deal.
On the Cat, it is a flat platform and he sat on the front of the seat and held onto the grab bar in front of the instrument panel. I was only going maybe 1 1/5 MPH on flat ground. With the backhoe, the machine was stationary and my arms were around him as we both held the joysticks.
