Honest Opinion - IH 800 Cyclo

I have the chance to buy an IH 800 that has been narrowed up to 20" rows for planting beans. I don't know anybody that has run one to plant beans and was wondering what issues might lie with that planter. The price is right and would not mind being able to plant 20" or 24" row beans with a high degree of singulation.

IH has a good row unit and as far as I am concerned a very good system of metering soybeans. A few people had issues with hyd. pressure requirements for the marker valve. I know some people that made 8row 20" bean planters out of 800's and they worked well, I made one out of a 400 but the emergence wasn't as quick and uniform. I wouldn't be a bit afraid of an 800 for soybeans.

In my neck of the woods guys who had Cyclos bought a better planter for corn and kept the Cyclo for planting beans. The central fill is nice and it still puts the beans in the ground at a more consistent depth than a drill can do. Jim

I already have the better planter for corn in the JD 1750 I
purchased this year. I was not actively looking for a 20" bean
planter but still would like one and this IH 800 is coming available
after the first of the year. It has no fertilizer with it but the price is
pretty good on it. It is supposed to be well maintained but the
current owner wants to wait to formally sell it till he goes through it
hence after the holidays.
