Ground hog and I are at war.

Went out this afternoon to pick some tomato's to can some salsa. Saw one of my roosters running way from the area my green beans are planted in then saw what it was running from. The ground hog had climb up my PCV/fence arch and was eating my green bean plants. Have a trap set with melon rinds in it out in the garden and hope it goes in because if it does that will be the last of it

Lay on the ground and twitch. Claim that he used poison gas on you and......well,you know the rest.

They get me ticked over the edge sometimes too, just seems to be certain times of the summer, I've posted numerous times about it, the trials and tribulations LOL !

Well I plugged the hole one made to make a backdoor entrance to my upper garden, no trouble since, he does like the tops of pigweed though.

10 minutes ago, the one that has outsmarted my trap every time, who moved in under the porch, was right out in the open, but just eating forage in the lawn, kind of why I never spray or what have you for weeds, as it distracts deer, rabbits and 'chucks, it really works for rabbits they just leave my garden alone, having plenty of food elsewhere. I could sit on the porch and wait, rested up, and snipe this chuck I am sure, but it was another that actually got into the garden, and he's gone, den closed up, never came back, I did not shoot or trap him. I'll eventually trap him somehow, looks better than me sitting on the front porch with a gun ready to shoot, my neighbor will think I'm nuts LOL,. well thats true but......

The other day my friend was at a surprise birthday party, saw a big coyote, thought it was a deer at first, he stalked and killed a woodchuck right in front of everyone.

I hope you git em...... I know how frustrating it can be !!!

Ya and if you do not take them out next year there will be 4 plus and then from there on many many more. I keep seeing this one or is it 2 but never have a gun in hand when I do. Also saw a coyote the other day in broad daylight. Ran into the house for a gun but it was gone before I got back out there. Not sure if it was that fact I do not run fast any more or the coyote ran faster LOL

I've not heard any coyotes all summer, something is up, lots of fawns this year too. One thing I have seen signs of are racoons, they have been in every one of my stands and crapped all over each one, some real fresh, flies all over, could not even sit in my best one, made of scaffold, nice platform, can't imagine what else they carry besides rabies. I saw one in another old platform stand way up in a black cherry tree, I was armed with a .22 sidearm, just could not get a sight line to him just right, power lines too, no houses beyond, but I have to make sure 100% its a hit if shooting that way regardless, I'm sure he's the one using my favorite places as an outhouse, they're supposed to be clean wash their food, well they sure sh$t where they eat.

Sounds like something Disney could make a cartoon about !....LOL
Happy trapping!....Sam

A few years ago, a guy who let me trap fox wanted me to trap woodchucks for him. Another guy was shooting them with a .223 or 22-250. His wife kept score. I don't recall the exact numbers, but it was around 60 out of his 80-acres. And I only trapped about half of it.

I heard they like purple bubble gum and they can't digest it so it kills them. I've never tried it but the info came from a trusted source. If you try it let us know how it works.

Some of you guys will think I'm smoking "wacky tabbacky",but, about a week ago I saw one of these groundhogs climb up about 5 feet into a maple tree in the back yard.
He just sort of sat there and leered at me because he knew the.22 was in the house and I couldn't get there and back in time to fix him up.
Startled me so bad I forgot to take a picture with my phone.
Thought I was seeing things. I mean I am getting a bit older, but that was crazy. A first for me.

We had a mutt dog tree one once, ground hog went out on a limb, and was chattering at the dog. So like Putin, I come up behind it, and whacked it in the head with a shovel, and knocked it to the ground, so it could fight the dog fair!

Yes, they climb trees - especially if that"s the only refuge, and they can"t get to a burrow. Yes, they"re quite good at it!

Do you live where you can shoot him. We shoot ours as long as there is nothing behind him that a bullet can hit.

They climb real well, I have a photo somewhere in the masses of photos, of one on a small diameter limb, he was 12' feet up or so.

I use my jack russell terriers on them. It is a heck of a lot of fun. Old, sent you a note.
My little female bolted one to earn her natural hunting certificate.

Here's a video of someone I know that's dog got loose and found some fun!

Do what my grandpa did, get out the old tractor run a hose from exhaust into hole and plug all holes you can find. CO will get him

Got the problem with them trying to take over my shop. Only have gravel floor. Friend came over yesterday to help me get tractor running. Said when he bought his place they tried taking over barn with ground floor. Said used wrapped bubble gum and it took care of them but a coon it will not bother.

If I could find the hole I would fix it with gas and a match but there holes are in places like under and old car or such things to are hard to get to

We use b'gum (any color) around here for gettin' rid of p'dogs - only one mis-fire was a guy tht chewed it before he dropped it in the hole  but then, this guy can't even sharpen his own lawnmower blades - natural selection failed on that one
