Versatile tractor forum

To the chap that changed a clutch out in the field on a Versatile, you have never changed one on a 555. It took another mechanic and I 24 hours to remove same. You have to remove the transmission through the cab and out the door via an overhead 4" I beam bolted to the top inside of the cab. After getting it on the floor, then you have to dismantle the tranny to get at the clutch which is inside the transmission. Talk about a POS. this is it. I've seen bigger clutches in small engines. These things are definitely not for any type of work! Do not buy this thing, run from it! The clutch are multiple discs, wet, but not heavy enough for the tractor. We have not put the thing back together yet as the p[arts for the clutch are over 5 grand! There is nothing wrong with the rest of the transmission, just the clutch. I am going online to see if anyone has replace the transmission with a couple of truck trannys so that we can use a truck clutch in the tractor. Rest of the tractor is OK as the owner and I have done a multitude of work on it. New engine , 8.3 Cummins, axles and planetaries done, new rubber, as well as centre pin bushings. Cheers, Larry.
