Auger repair

The side (loading) auger on my mixer grinder is in bad shape. Someone years ago pieced in some metal but that is wearing thin. It is on a JD 400, so finding a replacement is out.

How have you guys repaired an auger? This one is at least an open top auger so I only have straight sides and the curved bottom to deal with. I only need to do about 3 foot of it, but I'm not going to be able to put it off for much longer. I don't want something too thin, but I have to be able to get that corn up there without grinding it on the way - I have to be able to shape it pretty easy!

You can by new flighting for it then either cut the old off and weld on the new or have a welding shop do it.

Mine is in rough shape on my 400 grinder too. I patch it every couple of years. I weld pieces of steel on it to keep it working. Although I'm not much of a welder.
Like the other post says, you can get new flighting and rebuild it. I got a BTO buddy that told me to bring it over in the winter when hes not busy and he would do it. Its been working ok and I hate to bother him with it anyway.

You mean the U trough is thin? New U trough can be rolled at a larger machine shop. Maybe a gain bin/grain handling dealer can help out. Jim
