After marker radiator

I removed the radiator on my JD 401 industrial today. That was my labor for labor day. The radiator needs to be rodded out, the tubes are plugged. It will probably cost 150.00 to do that.I see one on ebay for just over 300.00 with free shipping. I am sure it is made in china. no one else can make one that cheap. Has anyone used a after market radiator. Not just a JD radiator, but other brand tractors probably use the same radiators made in china. Stan

That old American JD radiator is still better that brand new chinese junk.Go ahead and fix the old one.Even if it costs more than the new one,it will outlast the Chinese radiator, the tractor, and maybe you, too.

Get the original repaired. That cheap Chinese one may not last a year. Then you may not be able to fix it. Some of them are so thin they can not be repaired. So have your old one fixed. Even if you have to have it recored the tanks and the replacement core will be twice the quality the new cheap one will.

I'll echo what the others have said - fix your old radiator. I put a chinese radiator in a Ford NAA for a relative... spent a LOT of time making it fit. It was significantly lighter than the original, too.

I bought a eBay one for my 4020 becuase my original was completely destroyed and its been a good radiator I've had it for ten years it was still good until my cheap water pump sent the fan through the radiator so cheap parts I don't know some are good some bad but my cheap radiator was /is good with the help of some jb weld . I would have bought a john deere but I didn't have the money to

I bought an after-market radiator for a Farmall M. Had a few problems with the fit. Holes didn't quite line up.
I would recommend that you have your old one fixed.

I took my JD 4230 radiator to a radiator shop to have it rotted out. I'd used the guy for years fixing rent-a-wrecks for the kids.

He said that the EPA shut him down. This was a small mom-pop operation and probably the EPA said he had to do this and that to comply with new rules and he didn't have the money to buy the equipment or just didn't want to.

So he washed out the fins and all best he could which really helped, but it didn't solve the problem. The sucker always ran hot when I needed it the most.....100 degree days, AC running and bailing hay.

We put quite a few new rads in forklifts where I work. Most new aftermarket ones are a lot lighter even though the original ones were probably also made in china too. Even recores at our favorite local shop are cheap cuz the bulk core material he gets is chinee too. Make your original go as long as possible.

I put a cheap Chinese in my 8n two years ago. Have had no problems. It was less than $200 with free shipping. I will add, I only put about 80 hours a year on the tractor mowing with a finish mower. I did save the old radiator in case I want to get it re-cored.

A&I products sell radiators made by Clancy that are built in Ireland. We have three and have had no problems, the oldest was installed in a 4020 ten years ago.

Even the Irish have outsourced. I ordered a 8N radiator from A&I last week. Had Clancy"s name on it, but made in the Czech Republic. Go figure!

I was at a radiator shop a few months ago and saw a radiator on the floor for a John Deere. It had fairly new paint on it, so I ask the owner of the shop what the problem was. He said the problem was that it was foreign made.
