O/T Need Windmill Advice

I have a chance to get a windmill on a 30 ft tower. Here"s my problem....is it the same thing to weld the anchor posts on the tower and then hire a crane to drop into the holes and cement and backfill in; or, cement anchor posts in first, and then weld or bolt in to tower. For me to measure where the anchors should go to line up with the tower legs would be a challenge (always out an inch or two). I think it has three legs and the holes would be four feet deep and 18" wide. THANKS. I"m trying to get on a windmill site but haven"t heard back from the registration process.

I think unless you're placing it on a tilt up tower you're probably better off avoiding this opportunity. What goes up must come down and it will need to come down for maintenance.

Had a pro. put one up for a guy I drilled the well for, They started in the morning, unloaded all the parts dug and Pour the concrete footers, Then left For the day. Next day they started early put it up piece by piece. Were done the 2nd. day. This was a Man and Wife team, They put them up all over this county, and a few in other county as well. Wife was the ground person. hooked the rope to all the pieces. Think it was put up the same way the did them 100 years ago. Well They may of used horse and wagon instead of a f-350 Ford Diesel lol. They most likey had a temp-plate made up for footers.

I dont know about your windmills but the ones we have in Australia the tower is in sections bolted together. Dad fixes windmills and if he puts up a new one or old one over new well he will take the bottom section off and bolt the anchor posts on dont weld them then set them in concrete then remove the section in a day or to put it back on tower and lift the whole windmill up with a crane and the anchor posts should be in the right place. It can be done just standing it in the holes and cementing it in but you dont wont a windy day or to and plenty of ropes/cables to stay it back so something heavy so it wont blow over as cement cures

I think you want the holes deeper that four feet. probably six anyway. Most mills I've seen have 4 legs. Bury two corners then tip the mill up and set the other two. Make sure it's plumb over the hole. To set it up use a piece of bridge plank bolted to the legs for a hinge. You can't have it bolted. Go slow and be safe.

Per Rayp(mi)'s answer...no wind, no power..thats
why we will still need coal fired power plants !
(and the "Tree Huggers" who are against coal, are
all secret stockholders in kerosene lantern firms)

Hope this helps.

I guess it depends on what kind of tower it is and what it's purpose is... There's a lot of towers out there that you aren't climbing... although this one may not be that type.

My original though with this thread is that he was installing a electric turbine... but mabey not.
