Hello, I have a 1944 JD B and have been attempting to use it at tractor pulls. I was wonder if it is possible to swap out 1st gear with a later style so I can get more power to the wheels and not power out. I think my current 1st is 2.5 mpr and later styles are about 1.5 mpr.

A member has a B with a speacial low 1st.He doesnt do well because he always spins out way early.I gues if you hung a lot of wts on you tractor you would pull further...But you would be in a heavier class and your 'percentage' would be reduced.thus doing 'worse' than 'better'.More power than traction. The guys with 'normal' gears do better.

Most end up doing best by increasing Horse Power and using the speed to your advantage..

Bore and Stroke it..

That is one thing I need to check out in the parts book. Worked a pull yesterday. The 41 model has a slow first gear but the 46 has a high first gear but not sure what year they made the change. And our pull that tractor would be in the 1 plow class and allowed 2 weights on each rear wheel and that is it. No engine mods except for a power block or aluminm gas pistons, no stroking but if they would fit the slow speed gears from a early one in a later one (41 to 46 range) would be allowed. I am sure from a later model that would have a slow speed would not work as they were a single stick tractor while yours is a 2 stick tractor and it would have to be the early 2 stick to get the slow speeds. There were 2 41 models in the pull and both were slow.
